Andy Carter MP: The Leader of the House will no doubt be aware of the ongoing speculation that Royal Mail and its parent company International Distributions Services are subject to a takeover by EP Group. I know she will agree that the Royal Mail plays an important economic, social and cultural role in this country. As well as delivering a universal service obligation to all parts of the UK, Royal Mail is an iconic British brand. It carries His Majesty’s insignia and plays a vital role in all UK elections. I know how much my constituents value regular and timely postal services. May we have a debate in Government time on what legal safeguards are available to ensure that the important functions of Royal Mail are delivered for all our constituents, and that they continue beyond the obligations in the National Security and Investment Act 2021 in the event that the company is taken over and headquartered outside the UK?

Reading the press this weekend I got the impression that bid will be made. Bidder making high level contacts with Labour government. Also the Sunday Times report that Unions will end hostility to Royal Mail service cuts in the face of the takeover threat should be positive news either way. My guess is that a Labour government will not roll over and cave in to unions, they have a chance of being in power for a very long time if they get business and the economy right. Many are saying that there could be a Summer election. Starmer is not that stupid and will be getting advice from the likes of Blair and other moderate socialists. With Labour likely to make gains in Scotland there is almost no chance of a Tory government. They are powerless now so they should step aside.

Sunak is personally responsible for holding back reforms at RM, he (like smoking) has made it a personal project to feck them up! https://www.telegraph.co.uk/business/2024/04/22/royal-mail-urge-ofcom-delivery-shake-up-takeover/

Largest Shareholders are saying bid is undervalued and blaming (rightly so) Ofcom and HMG for completely ignoring a need for change with the USO! https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/royal-mail-investor-hits-out-at-raider-kretinsky-over-3bn-takeover-sfhmngwrr

This is much larger and anything can happen. With shareholders in general pissed off with the low values on the LSE they are prone to take anything that is higher regardless if it doesn't give full value. This could happen here too if they can get over the percentage line needed for the takeover. IDS alone should be worth £4billion, RM does have a very valuable asset in Parcel Force which is given no value at all.
Some articles are stating Kretinsky is making a £4.5billion bid, he is doing no such thing, they are not including any of IDS's assets only debt! I had a Company bid on the LSE a few years ago and the buyer knew that half the mkt cap was covered by cash they had in the Bank. Again this happened when the market was weak, by the time a rival bid could be proposed it was game over and we all got shafted ! The CEO was a bit naive and I had been advocating that he use that money to pay a Special Dividend or something as it was vulnerable to a takeover. He did FA and the buyer took all the cash with the bid!

And the FT of all Newspapers says that IDS rejects £4.5billion bid? Now how did they work that out when there are only Shares 958m shares in Issue? Let's round that up to 1billion so x 320p errrr £4.5billion?? Royal Mail owner rejects £4.5bn takeover bid from Czech billionaire Daniel KÅ™etínský https://www.ft.com/content/a6f0251b-454b-4aa8-9c16-aee03f0c2e46
Not My Real Name, You're quite right the unions behave as if it's still 1965. If they had anything about them they would have got their members to pool their shares when the company was floated. But they're just actors on the stage of the Far Left, still giving the same show since circa 1949. They should be in a museum. It would be interesting if the takeover goes through, and we see this able gentleman, ignore OFCOM and just enact the changes that anyone with half a brain can see need to be made. If he ignores OFCOM, what are they going to do, shut down RM? The potential for efficiencies are huge, and one could claim to be hugely reducing the 'carbon footprint' (true) whilst making the thing highly profitable.
hxxps://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/czech-billionaire-daniel-kretinsky-considers-bid-for-royal-mail-8hkxdfhh0 Labour would not object to a takeover.

.... CWU RESPONSE TO BREAKING NEWS OF POTENTIAL ROYAL MAIL TAKEOVER The breaking news of an impending takeover bid for Royal Mail Group (IDS) by Daniel Kretinsky is another significant moment. The truth is handing over the ownership of one of the UK’s most prestigious institutions to a foreign equity investor cannot be right. But neither is the current model or direction of the company. The truth is Royal Mail needs a new ownership and governance model that builds a postal service for the workers and customers and not one built solely focused on shareholder payouts and driving down the service and the terms and conditions of the workers. The CWU will be campaigning publicly and politically to deliver this change of direction. Dave Ward General Secretary
Yeah it's weird that a bid / takeover news can't even get this back to a 3 month high!! Good luck all ðŸ‘￾ðŸ￾»
