Happy New Year rivaldo, and all here. HYC's been a mainstay for me in 2010: a LTBH star!

It's been a great 2010 for HYC - and on the fundamentals 2011 should be good for at least another 50% imo assuming the markets are stable.

Happy New Year all.

Agreed, I can see we are still posting higher lows but had hoped that jump was going to come when we hit 400p a week or so back. I know it is a matter of time, these markets have a way of teasing you though!

Look at the chart G78, just a little consolidation at new highs. It wouldn't surprise me to see HYC suddenly jump up 30p-40p to the next range, which is what it tends to do. You have to be in it to win it :o))

I must admit, I am a little surprised to see the drift back after a decent update and improved broker projections/targets.

Given:

- 21.61p EPS in H1 alone
- plus director buying post-interims at 387p
- and a usually seasonally better H2

I'd say HYC are quite capable of beating this year's forecasts by a distance, and they may beat next year's forecasts this year too.

Plus HYC have net cash too, so we may see acquisitions.

Hyder wins at NCE International Tunnelling Awards

Multi-national engineering design and advisory firm, Hyder Consulting is delighted to have won an award for its contributions to tunnel design on the Top Ryde Shopping Centre Redevelopment in Sydney at this year's NCE International Tunnelling Awards.

The project stood out from other contenders in the same category (Tunnelling Projects worth between £10M- £100M) for its high-calibre technical achievements accomplished amid challenging geological and construction contexts......."

As well as the Qatari World Cup, it seems HYC are looking to expand in India - lots of recruitment going on:

Demand in these areas for improved transport systems and clean water and waste water projects should continue to boom.

More from HYC yesterday about the Qatari World Cup prospects:

"So now the hard work really begins. Whether or not the majority of Qataris actually believed their country could win the World Cup, the reality is that Doha's landscape is going to change immeasurably over the course of the next twelve years as an estimated $57bn is pumped into infrastructure....

....."Companies with no GCC experience will no doubt win some contracts; however, they will have to go through the learning curve of operating within a new environment which may not result in the best service for Qatar, or for the profitability and reputation of those companies," says Wael Allan, regional managing director for Hyder Consulting, which has already worked on several key Gulf projects, including the Burj Khalifa."

HYC were guest speakers this week at a conference in Qatar - World Cup construction starting in just 12 months' time.....

"Qatar 2022: Spotlight now on HSE initiatives
by CW Staff on Dec 7, 2010

Qatar's Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani and his wife Sheikha Moza hold the World Cup trophy.

Qatar's winning World Cup bid has not only put the Gulf state on the world map, but it has thrown a spotlight on the way developers, contractors and construction professionals work, delegates at the first annual QPM and Construction Week HSE in Construction conference were told this week.

Held in Qatar's capital Doha, the conference was targeted at Health, Safety and Environment professionals working in the state, and throughout the GCC.

Conference guest speaker Karl Simons, Regional Director, Construction and regional Management System, Hyder Consulting, said the event and the years leading up to the tournament were crucial for Qatar.

"Over the next 10 years, the spotlight of the world will be on Qatar, and if you think back recently to what happened at the Indian approach towards the [Commonwealth] Games with the bridge collapse, suddenly the perception of the whole games was that it was an unsafe place to go."

"It's absolutely incumbent on us as the industry leading body of professionals to now start to steer the government towards the establishment of a committee that would allow the appropriate actions to be taken to start the process," he said.

His thoughts were echoed by QPM's HSE director Wayne Harris, who told delegates that the event would draw terrific scrutiny from every quarter, and that Qatar's construction industry must pull together to ensure everything from HSE standards, design and build quality, project delivery and infrastructure was completed to the very best of Qatar's ability.

"Once you become a global sporting event, you've got to come together as a collective body. You can't go about it on your own. That means that the Society of Engineers here in Qatar has a part to play. Construction companies should all asking, 'Are we doing enough?' and 'Are we doing what we should be doing?"

Harris said that while the announcement had taken the brakes off some projects, many other projects were still in the design stage and had not yet been put out to tender.

"Once the construction starts, say in 12 months time, the real big start, we're going to see a boom like we saw in the rest of the Middle East in 2005-2006, when it started to really kick off," he said.

That would mean an influx of workers who will need to be able to work to high standards, safely and effectively. However, he said there was little time left for companies who wanted to secure World Cup contracts and who had not already addressed their working practices.

"My advice to any professional, whether they're in construction management, project management, commercial, HSE, is, if you have not sat down yet, in your organisation and said 'what are we going to plan for the World Cup', you're going to miss the boat because when you come to tender for any of these projects in the future, the requirements are going to change – and you're going to have to be ready for it," he said."

Absolutely G78 - HYC have a large presence in Qatar in particular, and I'd imagine they're going to start planning and rolling out that infrastructure pretty quickly. They're basically going to have to start from scratch in terms of stadia etc, so there's lots to do.

Any chance of HYC getting some of the consultancy work for design of infrastructure for the Russian or Qatar world cups. I guess both countries will be looking at new stadia with improved transport links etc.

The latest forecast FYI - 5 Buys and an Outperform!

Fairfax are going for it. Achieving 48p EPS next year would surely set HYC fair for say a 550p-600p share price...

And given that HYC have substantial net cash now we may see acquisition news which may encourage a bigger re-rating:
