Nature of the Event: Monetary Fine by the Supervisor of Banks

Bank Hapoalim B.M. ("the Bank") respectfully advises that on 16.5.2019 the Supervisor of Banks imposed upon the Bank a monetary fine in the sum of NIS 1,575,000. The Supervision's decision to impose a monetary fine was made following instances where customers, who sought to make use of the Bank's ATMs for cash withdrawals, were debited on account of withdrawing funds and were charged with fees notwithstanding that the withdrawal of funds was unsuccessful, thereby constituting a breach of Sections 3 and 5(a) of the Proper Conduct of Banking Business Provisions No. 433 and of the provisions of Section 9.J of the Banking Law (Service to the Customer), 1981. The Supervision recognized arguments made by the Bank regarding actions it has already taken to correct the deficiencies and to prevent them from recurring, and reduced the fine by 10% to the above-mentioned amount.
