Just bought 2k shares as the market doesn't seem to have reacted to the huge spike in dry charter rates just as the companiy's two biggest vessels become available. Between them, this could add $20m to 2008 turnover, with some of the increase coming through this year. The current Baltic Dry Index is 6,479 which is over double the average level for the whole of 2006. 2008 will also benefit from the MS Fortune which is being reconstructed and should get around $27,000 per day at current rates.

I expect positive news at the AGM scheduled for 17th May.

A yield of 5% plus, a PE under 10, strong visibility of earnings for three years and $81m in the bank. Looks attractive at £3.40. Thought I'd read comments here. Disturbed to see some of you think its a dud. whats you're latest view post the results and other recent announcements?

when goldenport first floated i was of the same opinion as you - who is crazy enough to invest in this old pile of rustbuckets?

i'm slowly changing my opinion though. the fleet will certainly need replacing sometime soon, and with its high div. yield, the money for this can only come from additional debt or a secondary placing. this is not bad though, cause their balance sheet is quite strong currently.

they are trading at a P/NAV of around 130%, which is similar to or less than their peers in the US (for dry bulk anyway). they also have very visible earnings for the next few years. also, as the shipping market seems to be shrugging off its worries of over supply of vessels, future day rates look increasingly attractive.

i think that as long as management gradually replace their older fleet with newer tonnage, which they are obviously doing now, the company will do ok - not brilliant, but ok.

£2.50 now!!! I need it to get to £2.97 (which is £200m mcap) to be able to short it again...Heres hoping. In the meantime the dry cargo market is still very strong, but showing first signs of slowing a bit!

Thanks...The spread killed me on the spreadbet...a whopping 10 points!!! Anyway a profit is a profit...was a bit greedy when it went down to 213 thinking it would go further...especially when i knew the physical shipping market was booming! Nevermind. Good luck

Well done on your banked profit Grippa.

Aye the charts generated a sell @ 266/7 and now a buy @ 227/8 but of course that doesn't allow for the spread.

And no I've not bought.

I am out! For a small profit. The dry cargo market is going from strength to strength at the moment, this company is still rubbish and over priced in my opinion but with only two quoted shipping companies in the UK this may keep on rising! I will short it again if it ever gets over £200m mcap...

There was pretty high volume on Friday with a late fall...I think the investors that got in on the IPO must be getting fed up by now...I expect this to fall further to under £2 shortly. Good luck

M4M...Yes finally I am sitting on a small profit...still very annoyed cityindex wouldnt let me short it again on the 2nd May as i would be on much more of a profit...sods law though!! This may sound crazy but my target price is probably somewhere around the 110p mark. I really cannot see any good news on the horizon for GPRT or really any other pure ship owning stock at the moment, but certainly not GPRT which is amazing still above its IPO price. When it IPO'd I did some breif calculations and based on the values of other shipping stocks they where about 50% too expensive...time will tell. Are you still sitting on the sidelines?

Takeovers...I suppose thats whats helping GPRT at the moment, but GOC is a very different beast to this! I am also sure Gprt wont become the target of another takeover. Anyway I appreciate you are looking for dividends, but just look across the pond to see how the US companies have been cutting back on their divi payments recently. Anyway i suppose a sit and wait approach is probably best.

Aye good luck grippa.

End of the day if you're correct and have the margin then fundamentals will win unless the old takeover rumours keep the sector buoyant. All 'boats' float then ? (I'll get me coat)

Personally I'm not a fundies player as I look at the charts to make my call (trade what I see and all that) tho if I buy for the longer term I look for divi cos as well. This is what attracted my attention to this one as well as it helping to be part of a diversified portfolio.

At the mo I am still watching this one ;)

Absurd....Can anyone tell me why the price is going up? What makes this company so much better than every other listed shipping company. What makes it also so good that it goes against what the actual shipping market is doing? Rates go down, thus profit goes down...but share price goes up?!?! Strange....

This must be the most over valued and inflated public shipping company in the world at the moment. It is surely only a matter of time before the investors realise what they have bought into, and start dumping their shares. Some of them will even amazingly get out at a profit?!?! from the 235 IPO price. I am not complaining too much as it gives my a higher start off point to short from!! This is in my opinion at least 50% too expensive. And I cant see where the buyers will come from??? No doubt i will be disappointed though and there will be some nutters willing to buy this. Good Luck.
