    Appointment of Non-Executive Director


    Globe Specialty Metals, Inc. (AIM:GLBM.L) ("Globe" or the "Company") is pleased to announce the appointment of Donald G. Barger, Jr.,
aged 65, as a non-executive director to the Board effective December 15, 2008.  

    After graduation from the US Naval Academy and five years in the Nuclear Submarine Service of the US Navy, Mr. Barger went on to a
successful 36 year business career in manufacturing and services companies. During the period 1993 to February 2008, Mr. Barger held the
position of Chief Financial Officer at Worthington Industries Inc., Hillenbrand Industries Inc. and YRC Worldwide Inc., respectively.

    Mr. Barger holds or has held the following directorships, and is or was a member of the following partnerships during the past five
years:
