CALGARY - The Board of Directors of First Calgary Petroleums Ltd. ("FCP") is
pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Yuri K. Shafranik to the Board
effective immediately.

Mr. Shafranik has enjoyed a highly successful career in both the oil business
and government.  Mr. Shafranik is currently  Co-Chairman of the Saudi - Russian
Business Council, Chairman of the Russian Oil Company SoyuznefteGas, and
Chairman of the Council of Oil Producers of Russia (oil lobby group).  Mr.
Shafranik has served as General Director of one of the predecessor companies of
Lukoil, Chairman of Tyumen Oil Company, and  Executive Chairman of the Central
Fuel Company, the owner / operator of the Moscow Refinery.  In Government, Mr.
Shafranik was Russia's Minister of Fuel and Energy from 1993 to 1996 and Advisor
to the Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation from 1996 to 1997.
Prior thereto, Mr. Shafranik served as the Governor of the Tyumen region and a
Senator in the Upper House of the Russian Parliament.

First Calgary is an International Oil and Gas Exploration Company operating in
Algeria.  The Company believes Mr. Shafranik's extensive experience in the oil
business and government will be extremely valuable to the Company as First
Calgary enters its next stage of development.
