My dilemma will come if PHGP hits 13800 - which was my target when I bought.

Do you know what an $1800 USD would equate to in PHGP?

That it's down today is a +ve for me :o) Buying because I believe higher inflation an/or even a major banking crash is a possibility

Just seen this again in my main holding annual report..(RIT or Rothchilds IT)

"...The main driver of returns was gold,
with both our direct gold positions and gold mining funds
performing well, buoyed by a 19% increase in the
commodity over the year. We continue to view gold as an
important diversifier against increased macro volatility,
caused by either lower growth and/or higher inflation...."

Gold/government stimulus: valuable insurance
There are multiple reasons why investors are turning to the ‘currency of last resort’

.............As the Fed prints more money, other central banks will probably add to their gold holdings, following two record years of reserve purchases. These buyers account for 15 per cent of purchases, from almost nothing in 2010. China and Russia have led the way. Elsewhere, supply chain disruptions have pushed up food prices around the world. Once lockdowns end and consumption resumes while real rates stay low, inflation should pick up. That has been the other reason to buy gold, as inflation protection.

Perhaps this glittery metal’s best attribute is what it lacks, a positive correlation with other securities prices. As such, it provides some hedge against market volatility, a bit like plain old cash should do.

Absolute return:

BlackRock European Absolute Alpha D Acc has done well (up about 7% in the last two years)

Merian Global Equity Abs Ret R GBP H Acc was awful lost 12.5% and took the loss and bought PHGP

So after taking the Merian hit I am up 3% - so relieved!

Nope - I have an account which is defensive and goes towards paying off my mortgage so I have an AR fund and PHGP.

I had two AR funds, but one was doing badly so I swapped it for PHGP and so far I am ahead of my initial investment - so PHGP has caught up for me.
