RNS Number:5503D Entertainment Rights PLC 25 May 2006 Entertainment Rights Plc AGM Statement At the Company's AGM this morning, Rod Bransgrove, Chairman of Entertainment Rights Plc will make the following statement: '2005 was another strong year for Entertainment Rights ("ER") with your Company delivering another record set of results. We own and represent some of the most sought after brands in the children's and family market and the appeal of our quality portfolio has been reflected in the Company's strong performance. The strategic mix between higher margin wholly owned brands and third party alliances has provided us with a well balanced business. Following the acquisition of Rupert Bear(R) in October 2005 and new commissions from leading broadcasters for Rupert Bear(R), Jim Jam & SunnyTM, Postman Pat(R) and Basil Brush(R) we now have over 400 episodes of new programming commissioned giving ER a strong production schedule through to 2008. Postman Pat(R) continues to deliver and is now airing in the US. ER has now secured premier broadcast platforms for Postman Pat(R) in the top five pre-school markets in the world - the US, UK, Japan, France and Germany, offering significant revenue opportunities for ER in these major markets. In a key development, ER has recently secured a major promotional opportunity for Postman Pat(R) with the United States Postal Service ("USPS") for a series of marketing and promotional activities using the Postman Pat(R) character. An important development in 2005 was ER's acquisition of the controlling rights to Rupert Bear(R) from Express Newspapers for a total consideration of #6m. ER acquired worldwide in perpetuity audio visual, licensing and merchandising, publishing, live events, new media and all production rights to the Rupert Bear (R) brand in October 2005. Following the acquisition of Rupert Bear(R), ER quickly secured significant agreements for Rupert in the UK with a new television series entitled Rupert Bear(R) - Follow the Magic being commissioned by leading UK broadcaster, Five. Pre-eminent Master Toy and Publishing partners have also been secured and a full consumer products and DVD release programme will commence in 2007. We are delivering on the challenges we set for ourselves and key 2006 activity includes the debut of the She-Ra, Princess of Power(R) movie, 'The Secret of the Sword' in US cinemas through leading US children's film distributor Kidtoons. She-Ra(R) will also appear on DVD in the US for the first time ever this year as BCI Navarre, ER's DVD distributor in the US for 230 hours of Filmation programming including He-Man and the Masters of the Universe(R), releases the first She-Ra DVD titles into the US market this Summer. In addition, She-Ra(R) will be the first ER brand to be adapted as short form programming and the repurposing of existing content is currently in production as part of an initial package of 200 shorts. This follows ER's recent announcement that, in response to the increased demand for shorter segments of programming suitable for digital devices, mobiles and downloads, it has commissioned Magic Lantern to adapt existing programming and create new content for the rapidly growing digital media market. This is the first phase of the repositioning of the She-Ra(R) brand and demonstrates the market opportunity ER recognised when the Company completed the Filmation acquisition. In March 2006 ER announced the BBC commission of Guess with Jess(TM) The BBC commission of ER's latest television series coupled with the Company's agreement with leading global toy company, Mattel's Fisher Price, for the worldwide (excluding Japan, USA & Canada) Master Toy rights for Guess with JessTM demonstrates ER's ability to maximise revenue from its quality portfolio of brands and the strength of its commercial relationships with premier broadcast partners. Looking to the future, our plans for new properties such as Rupert Bear(R) and Guess with Jess(TM)as well as established brands including Postman Pat(R) are well advanced. ER has recently appointed Vivid Imaginations as Master Toy Licensee for Jim Jam & Sunny(TM) We look forward to the launch of Jim Jam & Sunny(TM)programming later this year when ITV begins airing its biggest ever pre-school commission of 260 x 11 minute episodes on ITV1 and the new children's digital platform, CiTV channel. ER is firmly established as a world leader in children's and family entertainment. ER's strong market position, international broadcaster, retail and licensee relationships combined with our international market knowledge give the Company a tremendous commercial advantage and an established position from which to further grow our business. Such strong positioning underpins both the Company's long term growth prospects and its ability to continue delivering considerable value to shareholders. The Board is confident that ER remains on course to meet market expectations for the current financial year. -Ends- Enquiries: Entertainment Rights Plc Elizabeth Gaines, Finance Director 0208 762 6200 Liz Morris, Head of PR Bell Pottinger David Rydell/Sarah Landgrebe 0207 861 3232 Editors Notes About Entertainment Rights: * Entertainment Rights Plc ("ER") is one of the UK's leading specialist media groups focused on the ownership of high quality children's and family programming, characters and brands * ER owns or controls the rights to many global characters including Basil Brush(R), Postman Pat(R), Jess the CatTM, Little Red TractorTM, Rupert Bear (R), He-Man and the Masters of the Universe(R), Fat Albert and the Cosby kidsTM, She-Ra(R), Ghostbusters and Jim Jam & SunnyTM * Since 1999, when ER owned rights to just 50 hours of programming, ER's library has grown to circa 2,000 hours of high quality children's and family characters and brands.
