RNS Number:8689A Ericsson(L.M.)(Telefonaktiebolaget) 21 March 2001 Ericsson's ENGINE concept revolutionizes broadband access with Instant ADSL Ericsson's new ENGINE Access Ramp solution Instant ADSL is based on unique technology allowing the subscribers to install Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL) in their homes within seconds, without assistance from an operator. As a technology for providing broadband access over existing copper cables, ADSL has now begun to be deployed as a mass-market broadband access solution. The Instant ADSL concept allows operators to deploy, activate and manage broadband access networks with DSL, technologies fast, efficiently and safe. "The self-installation kit includes everything that a subscriber needs to install and configure his modem and computer all by himself without assistance from the operator's personnel," said Ove Anebygd, Vice President at Division Multi-Service Networks, Ericsson. "It is just to put in the CD in your computer and wait a moment for the ADSL to be installed." Instant ADSL offers the operators a complete automated and fault proof activation of the ADSL service. By using Instant ADSL the operator can respond instantly to a service request from a subscriber, resulting in a substantially improved time to revenue.
