Trading Update - 22nd August 2007
Dobbies Garden Centres plc ("Dobbies") today provides an update on 2007 profit
expectations.
Sales
The sustained poor weather over the key summer months has continued into August.
This has meant that Dobbies' internal sales targets are unlikely to be met.
Whilst like for like sales year to date remain positive at +0.5%, sales of
garden furniture, plants and core gardening products have fallen short of our
expectations, although sales from other areas of the business remain positive.
Operating Profit
Total fees payable by Dobbies in connection with the offer by Tesco Holdings and
related corporate activity are expected to be approximately #2.8m. As recently
reported to Dobbies' shareholders, the Board of Dobbies continues to believe
that operating profits (profits on ordinary activities before interest, tax and
exceptionals) for the year ending 31 October 2007 will be above last year's
level.
Pre-tax profits for the year ending 31 October 2007 will fall below market
expectations, which currently stand at circa #6.2m.
