28/5/2008 09:14 | Discover Leisure loss widens, says meeting Q4 expectations a challenge UPDATE (Update adds background, detail from statement) LONDON (Thomson Financial) - Caravan and motor home dealer Discover Leisure Plc. said meeting trading expectations in the final three months of the year will be challenging due to the economic conditions. Announcing a pretax loss of 1.8 million pounds for the six months to end February, widening from 788,000 pounds the previous year, and revenue up to 51.8 million pounds from 10.1 million, the group said its first half was in line with expectations. However, it added that the outlook for the second six months, in which it generates the majority of its sales, is more uncertain. The operator of 16 branches across the United Kingdom said the normal seasonal uplift was depressed by an early Easter and worse than average weather which led to lower than expected results in March and April. The group added that better weather in May heralded a clear uplift with higher volumes in all areas which were closer to expectations. Discover Leisure said it estimates the value of the United Kingdom caravan, motor home and camping equipment sector at more than 1.6 billion pounds a year and the outdoor clothing and equipment market at more than 1.2 billion pounds. It added, while touring caravan sales to retailers increased 6 percent in the year to end February, there is anecdotal evidence that retail orders in the latter part of the year were weaker than the previous year due to reduced consumer confidence and a switch to motorhomes. The group added that the smaller but more profitable motorhome business resumed its steady upwards trend in the second half of 2007 with the United Kingdom maintaining its position as the second fastest growing market in Europe behind France. New motorhome registrations rose 7 percent over the year. The caravan holiday home market followed similar trends to the touring caravan market, the group said. Sales increased 10.9 percent in the year but retail enquiry levels were also weaker towards the end of the period. Discover Leisure said it has completed a review of its 13 freehold properties and been advised that over a third of the total 35 acres has planning potential for redevelopment for housing. It said it is the board's intention to discuss the potential for re-siting selected operations with the planning authorities during the second half of 2008. It added that the high value land may be saleable for residential development with some of the proceeds then being available for the development of further of the larger sites. | currypasty

22/5/2008 21:50 | Foxy, I don't mean to p!ss on your bonfire but a presentation to analysts is not unusal for DISL and you should not read anything into it. There was a presentation after full year results on 10Dec2007 and the share price promptly dropped. You really shouldn't ramp a share when you don't know what you are talking about sir. | whatlp
