DataLogic International Announces Availability of Wi-Fi Interface
to Its GPS Tracking Device
IRVINE, Calif., Oct. 22 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- DataLogic International,
Inc., (OTC Bulletin Board: DLGI; Berlin, Frankfurt Stock Exchange: 779612) a
technology and professional services company providing a wide range of
consulting services and telecommunications products such as VoIP equipment and
GPS vehicle tracking devices, today announced the availability of Wi-Fi
interface to its Panther Trak(TM) mobile units.
Using 802.11 technologies, Panther Trak(TM) can be programmed to communicate
with any Wi-Fi enabled device, allowing Panther Trak(TM) to transfer data to a
base station wirelessly and, consequently, at virtually no incremental cost.
When Wi-Fi is used as a communication method from a GPS mobile unit to a base
station, data can be transmitted directly from the mobile unit to the Internet
without incurring any cellular airtime charges.
"This capability also allows Panther Trak(TM) to function as a forwarder, where
it receives data from a Wi-Fi enabled device and transmits it to a base station
via a cellular network," said Robert Newell, DataLogic's Vice President of
Sales and Marketing. "For example, a Wi-Fi enabled Panther Trak(TM) unit can
be designed to receive tag data from a Wi-Fi enabled RFID reader and can then
forward the information, via a cellular network, to a base station for
real-time inventory or monitoring."
Keith Nguyen, DataLogic's President commented, "We continue to expand Panther
Trak(TM)'s functionalities. Recently, we added MicroLan support to permit
greater data input and output capabilities. In addition to providing GPS
location data, Panther Trak(TM) can now monitor and control a sizable number of
inputs via its MicoLan while interfacing to external devices via Wi-Fi or
cellular network. This will increase the product's usability as well as make
it a viable solution for many vertical markets."
More information about Panther Trak(TM) can be obtained by contacting the
company or by visiting KORE Wireless' booth #944, where DataLogic will
co-exhibit, at the upcoming CTIA Wireless I.T. and Entertainment Expo in San
Francisco on October 25 - 27, 2004.
