Barclays Bank PLC has declared cash dividends in respect of the quarterly
dividend period from 1 March 1998 to (but excluding) 1 June 1998
on the following outstanding shares of the Bank:

Non-cumulative Dollar-denominated Preference Shares, Series C1
and
Non-cumulative Dollar-denominated Non-voting Preference Shares, Series
C2 (together the "Series C Preference Share Units");
Non-cumulative Dollar-denominated Preference Shares, Series D1
and
Non-cumulative Dollar-denominated Non-voting Preference Shares, Series
D2 (together the "Series D Preference Share Units").

The amount of the dividend on the Series C1 and Series C2
Preference Shares is US$0.4219 and US$0.1406 per share respectively, amounting
to US$0.5625 per Series C Preference Share Unit.  The amount of the dividend
on the Series D1 and Series D2 Preference Shares is US$0.4313 and
US$0.1437 per share respectively, amounting to US$0.5750 per Series D
Preference Share Unit.

Those dividends will be payable on 1 June 1998 in respect
of shares registered in the books of the Bank or in respect of American
Depositary Receipt ("ADR") holders on record at the close of business on
23 April 1998.  The ADRs will trade ex-dividend with effect from 21 April
1998.
