I have sold all my UK holdings that are quoted except RRR and put all the cash into VEL Velocity Composites at an average of 42.75p. All the shares sold were at a loss so a bit of a punt here.

I've increased my holding in VEL making for an average of 41.1p.

Shell finds gas at hotly-tipped North Sea well Pensacola

Pensacola could become "one of the largest gas discoveries in the UK offshore SNS in the last decade", analysts have said

Shell (LON: SHEL) has found gas at the hotly-tipped Pensacola well in the North Sea, partner Deltic Energy (LON: DELT) has announced.

The pair kicked off drilling at the high-impact target, hoped to deliver 309 billion cubic feet of gas in the mid-case, in November using the Noble Resilient jack-up.

Analysts have previously said it has potential to be “one of the largest gas discoveries in the UK offshore SNS in the last decade”.

Deltic Energy said well testing is now underway and is “pleased to announce” that Shell has “reported that gas has been encountered in the reservoir”.

Well testing is expected to take around 30 days, at which point Deltic will provide an update.

Shell is 65% owner-operator of Pensacola, with Deltic (30%) and ONE-Dyas (5%) as partners.

Deltic CEO Graham Swindells said: “We are very pleased to have encountered hydrocarbons in the Pensacola exploration well at this intermediate stage of well operations.

“We now look forward to working with the Operator on the well testing programme, and will update the market once that programme is completed.”

The mid case (309bcf) or high-case at Pensacola (1.1bcf) would see a new pipeline to the Teesside Gas Plant installed.

Deltic has quoted with a 55% chance of success, while operator Shell has quotes 30%.

If Pensacola is in the lower-end of estimates – around 39 bcf – then it would likely be developed as a tie-back to the Ineos Breagh platform.

Westwood Global Energy Group has highlighted that success at the prospect could open up a wave of new plays in the southern gas basin.

Senior manager for north-west Europe, Peter Henry, said success here would also provide impetus for 15 other licences targeting the same “under-explored” Zechstein geological play.

Wood Mackenzie named Pensacola as one of its “wells to watch” for 2023.

Shell is also farmed into Deltic’s Selene prospect in the southern gas basin, targeting 318 BCF.

Pensacola Exploration Well - Commencement of Well Testing with FTSE100 SHELL

Deltic Energy Plc, the AIM-quoted natural resources investing company with a high impact exploration and appraisal portfolio focused on the Southern and Central North Sea, is pleased to announce that Shell, the Operator of exploration well 41/05a-2 on Licence P2252 (Shell 65%, Deltic 30%, ONE-Dyas 5% Working Interests), in the Southern North Sea has reported that gas has been encountered in the reservoir and has recommended to the Joint Venture ('JV') that a full well testing programme be undertaken.

The JV has endorsed the Operator's recommendation to undertake a full well test to evaluate the commerciality of the Pensacola prospect and update the geological model.

Deltic will provide a drilling update announcement in respect of Pensacola on completion of well testing which is expected to take approximately 30 days.

Graham Swindells, Chief Executive of Deltic Energy, commented:

"We are very pleased to have encountered hydrocarbons in the Pensacola exploration well at this intermediate stage of well operations. We now look forward to working with the Operator on the well testing programme, and will update the market once that programme is completed."

Activities Summary - 2 January 2023 - Tally Central Limited TALY formerly Lionsgold Limited AIM LION

It does look as if you can take the value of your Tally shares at about 3p each from the recent share issue. It is a matter of opinion from here whether Tally will wait to expand into other domains before an IPO or not. The gold sector has improved markedly and the GB£ price of Gold is not far off its high.

Final Results to June 30 2022.

Decan Gold Mines Limited - As mentioned in the Annual Report Tally has sold its interest in Geomyosore for shares in Decan.

Q4 Update

Emmerson, the Moroccan-focused potash development company, is pleased to provide an update on its corporate and operational activities for Q4 2022.

Highlights:

-- Environmental permit - discussions with relevant authorities have progressed closer towards approval, with the focus on management of water

-- Other technical workstreams (basic engineering) have progressed and are now near to completion

-- Offtake Memoranda of Understanding ("MOUs") signed in November
-- Strong expressions of interest from debt, equity financiers and potential strategic partners
-- Potash prices fell back in the quarter from historic peaks but remain well above long term averages

-- Liberum Capital appointed as Nominated Adviser

Graham Clarke, CEO, commented:

" At the end of Q3 we announced that we had renewed our strategic investment for a further 12 months and had strengthen e d our balance sheet with the raising of a further US$6.1 million , which will fund our planned activities in 2023 ahead of construction .

" During Q4, a considerable amount of work went into progressing discussions with regard to the environmental approval of the Khemisset Project, for which I am grateful to my team and the Moroccan authorities. A number of important issues that had held up progress have been resolved, and discussions have moved onto the specifics of the Project's water management, which is a key area of concern in Morocco following low rainfall in recent years. Our proposals (including specific revisions) are robust and I am cautiously optimistic they will be accepted, but the timing of approvals is in the hands of the Moroccan authorities. We appreciate the patience of our shareholders and are committed to doing everything that is needed to get this over the line .

" Work in other areas has continued. Our technical workstreams (which of course include key elements relevant to water management such as sourcing water and tailings facilities) are now nearing completion, and we were also able to sign MOUs for around 2/3rd s of our potash production on a take or pay basis , demonstrating the strength of demand for potash. Discussions with financiers continue, and we will provide updates at the appropriate times, although understandably the environmental approvals will unlock progress , particularly on the equity side.

" I am confident we will be able to provide some substantive updates over the course of Q1, and that 2023 will be a transformative year for Emmerson . "

Hemogenyx Pharmaceuticals plc (LSE: HEMO) announces that it has made significant progress towards the practical use of its Chimeric Bait Receptor ("CBR") platform technology, designed to program immune cells to eliminate viral infections by destroying the viruses that cause them. The Company's scientists have identified a target protein that can be incorporated into a single multipurpose CBR-based therapeutic capable of treating multiple viruses that belong to different viral families, instead of having to make a separate CBR construct for every virus. Among them are Dengue, Ebola, Marburg, Zika and Chikungunya. These viruses are among the most dangerous to humans, causing serious and often fatal diseases, and for which few effective treatment options exist.

Dr Vladislav Sandler, CEO & Co-Founder of Hemogenyx Pharmaceuticals, commented: "We are pleased now to be announcing further exciting developments in our CBR platform. CBR is a ground-breaking new approach to treat existing and emerging viral infections as well as potentially becoming an effective new form of cancer treatment. On the viral front, its potential ability to treat a very wide range of viruses give it the potential to revolutionise the treatment of viral diseases and even to become the means of counteracting biological warfare."

Is Tirupati Graphite / LSE:TGR - the best graphite stock to buy in Q1 2023?

TGR shares could now be trading at a discount to their fair value given the company’s high-quality graphite reserves and strong half-year results.

Tirupati Graphite (LON: TGR) investors haven’t been a particularly pleasant experience over the past year. The London-listed company’s shares have fallen by 75% from 140p in July 2021 to just 35p today and stands 10p below their IPO price of 45p.

But with catalysts round the corner, TGR shares could meet my requisites for a small-cap mining entry point: underloved, underappreciated, and undervalued. The case for investing in graphite stocks is already obvious, and TGR appears well-positioned to capitalise on the increased demand as green tech and the EV revolution takes off.

Tirupati shares: graphite stock for 2023?

TGR intends to become a fully integrated graphite and graphene producer (see here for the distinction), with operations in both Madagascar and India, and ambitions to become a world-leading benchmark flake graphite company. For context, TGR at present remains a £35 million minnow.

The company aims to operate across the supply chain, all the way from mining graphite at source to shipping graphene to customers worldwide. This includes primary mining and processing in Madagascar, and hi-tech graphite processing in India to produce valuable speciality graphite, in addition to plans to construct a start-of-the-art graphene and tech centre.

Tirupati is placing an emphasis on ‘green’ graphene applications that is likely to appeal to ESG investors, such as renewable energy generation and storage. And encouragingly, the company’s board and management cover more than 150 years of collective experience in the sector.

TGR operates two key projects at present, both in Madagascar- Sahamamy and Vatomina. Mining permits have been issued across a 33 square kilometre area lasting for 40 years. The projects are connected by highways to both capital city Antananarivo and the nearby Tamatave port.

Its first plant is now producing 3,000 tonnes per annum (TPA), and the company expects to develop to 81,000TPA production from the twin projects in stages over the next four years, of high-quality flakes of up to 96% purity, of which 60% will be jumbo sized.

At Vatomina, the current defined mineral estimate under JORC implies a total graphite reserve of 852,000 tons with a mine life of 14 years based on planned 60,000TPA production capacity. At Sahamamy, the same dataset shows total graphite of 296,800 tons, also with 14 years of mine life assuming a ramp up to 21,000TPA production capacity.

Key infrastructure is already in place, including an admin and residential area for the on-site team, an engineering centre and lab facilities for quality control, and full road surface improvements.

The company is also developing speciality graphite processing facilities to generate expandable, high purity, micronized and spherical graphite and graphene through its India-based projects — Patalganga, the Specialty Graphite Project, and the Tirupati Graphene and Mintech Research Centre.

Recent developments

On 5 December, TGR reported a successful £5 million fundraise through a share placement at 35p per share (a 18.57% discount at the time). £3.5 million is to be used to fund the acquisition of Suni Resources SA from Battery Mineral Ltd, a deal originally announced in mid-2021, with the remainder to be used to ‘progress its activities and developments.’

The deal includes the rights to The Balama Central and Montepeuz projects based in Mozambique, both of which are fully licensed for construction to 150,000TPA flake graphite production capacity, and which have already benefitted from significant infrastructure investment on site. With 152 million tons of JORC 2012 reserves and resources established across the two sites, there is more than 13 million tons of high-quality flake graphite to be mined, making the acquisition ‘transformational for the company.’

Then on 29 December, the company released unaudited half-year results to 30 September. Despite ‘exceptionally adverse weather conditions’ in the period, it achieved 63% growth in production and 78% growth in sales compared to the same half in the prior financial year.

Revenue from sales increased by 108% to £1.17 million, while gross profit increased by 24% to circa £378,000. And as a result of ‘increased operating profits and reduced administrative costs the negative EBIDTA reduced by 24% from £836,522 to £632,891.’

Executive Chairman and Managing Director Shishir Kumar Poddar claims that the company is positioned to be a ‘globally significant ex China source for mineral flake graphite’ in 2023. The mineral is expected to see a widening supply gap through 2023 and beyond, amid a determined western political focus to diversify supply chains away from the political and pandemic troubles of China.

Of course, there’s plenty that can go wrong as production accelerates. But as a speculative investment in the graphite sector, TGR shares look promising for 2023.

Shishir Poddar, Executive Chairman of London listed Tirupati Graphite PLC / LSE:TGR, said:

"We are pleased to report increasing production and sales in the period which resulted in a reduction in negative EBIDTA, despite challenging circumstances faced. The rapid action taken to address these challenges with innovative and pragmatic solutions has laid the path for our continued progress.

"We are making good progress towards completion of the acquisition of Suni Resources with all key obstacles now addressed. The projects are promising and pave the way for us to extensively engage with the highest growth markets for flake graphite.

"In 2021, the Electric Vehicles market more than doubled to above 6 million passenger cars and the trend continued this year, with the number expected to exceed 10 million. Clean hydrogen is gaining ground in other energy applications and flake graphite is again one of the key ingredients for the fuel cells that generate power using hydrogen. We believe the opportunities are immense and we are one of only two listed companies outside China that has taken a flake graphite project into production.

"As we progress further, we will continue to update the markets on our progress towards our goal of building a globally significant flake graphite source."
