RNS Number:9528L ClearSpeed Technology plc 17 January 2008 17 January 2008 ClearSpeed Technology plc Year End Trading Update ClearSpeed Technology plc ("ClearSpeed" or "the Group", AIM: CSD), a leader in high-performance co-processors for supercomputing applications, is publishing a year end trading update for the year to 31 December 2007. ClearSpeed grew revenue in the second half and is now expected to report revenues of more than £1.2m for the year as a whole. Importantly this growth was achieved by shipping more product to a wider range of customers, particularly in the academic sectors. High Performance Computing (HPC), In HPC,which continues as a key market, the Group won a major upgrade order from the Tokyo Institute of Technology system, and received its highest volume of enquiries ever at the Super Compute Conference, held in the US in November. IDC, the leading industry analyst, has announced that accelerated computing is one of its top 10 trends in 2008 for the HPC market. Clearspeed is positioned to be a key vendor within this market and its selection as a partner by Hewlett Packard is further validation of this trend. It also provides an important indirect channel into corporations and research institutes. Embedded Processing The Group also completed its first Intellectual Property licensing contract with BAE Systems for US Government satellite processing needs. This was significant, both in terms of value, and because it was the first design win in the key new market of embedded processing. As expected, this achievement created industry interest, which the Board believes will contribute to growth in the current financial year. In September the Group announced its move to an increasingly indirect sales model, working with partners and distributors to expand ClearSpeed's international routes to markets. Coupled with tougher market conditions, this resulted in a reorganisation and rationalisation of the cost base during Q4 2007. Completion of this programme is expected during Q1 2008 and will result in a £4.0m reduction in annualised operating expenditures. The Group finished the year to 31 December 2007 with total cash reserves of £19.6m (FY06: £11.8m) The Group expects to publish its preliminary results for the year to 31 December 2007 during the week commencing 17 March 2008 Enquiries: ClearSpeed Technology plc 0117 317 2000 Tom Beese, Chief Executive Officer Andy Kroese, Chief Financial Officer College Hill 020 7457 2020 Adrian Duffield/ Ben Way KBC Peel Hunt (Nominated Adviser and Broker) 020 7418 8900 Oliver Scott / Richard Kauffer Note to editors About ClearSpeed Technology ClearSpeed Technology designs high-performance accelerators that work alongside conventional computer processors (CPUs) in some of the world's most demanding applications. ClearSpeed's advanced technologies offer significantly higher computing speeds than the most powerful CPUs, but use far less electrical power. Based in Bristol and San Jose, the company has 84 patents granted or pending and its products include computer chips, boards, software tools, applications and support. The ClearSpeed Advance(TM) Accelerator Board sits alongside conventional computer processors and handles complex mathematical routines, dramatically increasing the speed of applications. At the heart of the Advance(TM) Accelerator Board are two ClearSpeed CSX600 chips, each with 96 processor cores that work in parallel to solve complex mathematical problems. A single CSX600 chip can perform more than 37.5 billion high-precision calculations per second (37.5 GFLOPS), whilst typically using less than ten watts of power - an unprecedented performance ratio unmatched by any rival system. As a result, ClearSpeed's Advance(TM) Board has the potential to deliver significant performance improvements in fields such as financial market trading, drug discovery, engineering and exploration, where users are demanding higher-speed computing at lower costs. The ClearSpeed Advance(TM) Board is currently offered as a plug-in board that can be easily fitted as an upgrade to a workstation, server or cluster.
