24/5/2006 19:11 | CHY share price looking interesting at present, and has indeed held up well so far. I'm a little concerned that there has been discussion in the FT regarding the possiblity of corporate bond defaults, which would I guess impact on CHY nav. OT I know but I was amused re Victor Meldrew. I think the Grumpy Old Men (& Women) TV series have been brilliant. Apropos your bathroom trials, I saw one of the innumerable home improvement programs recently, which contained the following gem: Presenter: the bathroom looks a bit tired. When was it last revamped? Owner: Oh, must be about 2 years ago now.... Presenter: Thought so. Time for a new look (!!!!!) | ashtongray
24/5/2006 16:16 | The price is holding on with the downturn in equities. My view is that we have not seen the bottom in recent slide. | washbrook
24/5/2006 09:38 | THANKS ashtongray Toilet yesterday would not flush yesterday- Had a go to repair on crutches. Tried several times taking things apart alas the internal system does not seem to be working properly. I have only had the toilet 3 years from Focus. My bathroom suite is also only 2 years old. I have already changed the taps on the basin. Nothing seems to last for any length of time these days. I seem to becoming more like Victor Meldrew by the day. Off now to do my Killer Suduku in today's Times. | washbrook
23/5/2006 19:04 | Hope your recuperation goes well, some summer weather would probably help, which reminds me of happy childhood memories of Ainsdale beach. Even if the grass on the dunes used to cut my feet up! All the best. | ashtongray
23/5/2006 13:01 | I went into hospital on 14.5.06 for a complete hip operation .Had the operation on Monday 15.5.06 before I went in I put a limit order for 183p managed to getall stock requested at 182.75p. on Tuesday my wife brought me the contract note. 13/5/2006 19:12 | I agree, have started to purchase at below 183.75, especially as the question marks over whether annual dividends were sustainable has now been settled for the foreseeable. My concern fwiw is whether share price performance in the face of a substantial general correction would hold up in absolute or just in relative terms? | ashtongray
13/5/2006 11:20 | Buying area now near. | washbrook
05/5/2006 22:17 | Looks like the stock is going below 184p. | washbrook
24/4/2006 15:27 | The other place is the JDT thread. | asmodeus
21/4/2006 10:57 | Pu Ber If you want to do research on investment trust this is one place to go:- if you want any more info please post. I will help. | washbrook
20/4/2006 15:41 | Hi guys, I came across this board by accident, and it looks like this could be something for me, but would like to check with you first, as I've never looked into investment trusts before. I have an ISA with iDealing which is currently holding quite a heap of cash, as I feel that my exposure to stocks is now high enough - frankly I'm a bit nervous about the market in general. Like most ISAs, the interest is a disgrace, but obviously if I remove the cash to put somewhere else, I lose the ability to put it back in the ISA, as and when I feel the time is right. Question - am I right in thinking that this trust is relatively safe, and that the dividend/interest is relatively safe, barring massive rises in interest rates elsewhere? Or are there more things to worry about? Oh, and is it eligible for ISAs? TIA | puber
19/4/2006 16:47 | Closed @186.75 middle plus 8.40p divi=195.15p up 2p on the day. That is what will appear in the FT tomorrow. | washbrook
12/4/2006 17:27 | I too had City of Glasgow ,also Merchants a couple of years ago. Last time I had Shires was November 1990 when the share price was £1.99. I was a big lover of the Gartmore stable some 25 years ago when most of the Gartmore stable had a share called 'TELERATE' that took off. they also had a big stake in Security Tag. | washbrook
12/4/2006 16:40 | Nearly all buys today I think a few more are seeing this as a good buy. washbrook Most of my shares are now income investment trust and from 2000 they have served me well SHIRES,GLASGOW,MERCH | superjock
11/4/2006 23:30 | Thanks, appreciate your comments. Like you, I was surprised that the present value of the tax benefits from the recent corporate action is being paid out up front. I had assumed that they would be used to underpin continuation of 12p annual dividends. | ashtongray
11/4/2006 20:19 | It will be interesting to see whether there is any more pre-xd rise to come on top of today's performance. Have you done any research on whether the xd share price effect for CHY is typically more/less than the dividend? | ashtongray
11/4/2006 17:05 | THEY ARE NOW 192.25 bid 193.25Offer Corrected | washbrook
10/4/2006 20:10 | THEY ARE NOW 190 bid 190.6 offer. Tried to buy all day at 190.4 but unable to buy more. The market makers are holding for the dividend payments. | washbrook
07/4/2006 22:41 | superjock. I have a pile of these. I have been investing over 45 years. I am 70 now and only invest in Income Investment Trusts. This is the only stock I have now. The stock has been moving up since it hit 184p nearing dividend time. If the stock had only declared just the interim I think it would be in the same position it is now.BUT SPECIAL DIVIDEND of 5.4p. I am somewhat suprised. i was tempted to buy some moore but decided not to. When xd comes the bottom probably will be 184p which I probably buy more of. Stripping out 8.4p That equates to 193.5p tops or slightly more. I | washbrook
07/4/2006 16:59 | Washbrook I bet this will be 195 by the close on Monday, the Sunday papers will all comment on the special dividend and the MM's will all hit CHY first thing. | superjock
07/4/2006 12:59 | The issuer wishes to advise that the Dividend Declaration announcement released at 09.40 today showed an incorrect date. In paragraph one the announcement stated that a dividend would be paid to Ordinary Shareholders on the Register on 18 April 2006 when it should have read 21 April 2006. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience caused. | washbrook |
