RNS No 7308k BRITISH ENERGY PLC 10th September 1997 BRITISH ENERGY AND PECO ENERGY ANNOUNCE JOINT VENTURE, AMERGEN, TO PURSUE INVESTMENT IN U.S. NUCLEAR PLANTS British Energy announces today the establishment of a USA-based joint venture company called AmerGen Energy Company LLC ("AmerGen") in partnership with PECO Energy (PECO). AmerGen will be jointly owned and managed by British Energy and PECO. British Energy's interest in AmerGen will be held by its wholly-owned USA-based subsidiary, British Energy Inc. AmerGen will seek opportunities to invest principally in existing nuclear generating assets in North America. AmerGen's Management Committee will include 4 representatives each from PECO and British Energy, including its Deputy Chairman, Dr Robin Jeffrey. It will be chaired by Mr Dick Smith, the President of PECO's Nuclear Division. The establishment of AmerGen demonstrates the progress which the management of British Energy and PECO have made in the last six months in developing a strategy for making investments in the generation market.
