28/4/2003 14:25 | insiderboy - LOL! He is indeed a bully that is use to getting his own way, or at least he was before we exposed him for the clown that he is. Why don't you stand up for yourself sugarbeast, or better still, retreat back to your safe haven pb6, where your friends will defend you! | responsiblelad
28/4/2003 14:18 | Sugarbeast you're a bit of a bully aren't you! it seems you are only capable of slagging people off and mocking them.... I'd say you were bullied at school....or are afraid to 'come out of the closet'. Responsiblelad has hit the nail on the head.........your a sad loner......... Buy some more HOL stock, so then u can be nice to me when you've made some profit...........it might cheer u up a bit, you never know................ I might just be right about HOL, eh???? | insiderboy
28/4/2003 14:11 | Then you would have only yourself to talk with! Are you the same sugarbeast that follows that dim wit petebarnes about? Be careful, you have more in common with him than you think! | responsiblelad

28/4/2003 13:00 | Just out of interest sugarbeast, which broker do you currently use? If I remember rightly, you only punt in £1000 blocks at a time, maybe you'd be better sticking with your online broker who is happy to place small amounts. | responsiblelad
20/1/2003 15:34 | I use a Lynksys BEFW11S4, Easy peasy to install and suports wireless and 4 standard ports. Would need to work with your current ADSL router (it will plug into the back of the WAN port on the back of the Lynksys Router) and witha few WLAN PCMCIA cards you're away. Installed at homw and the office adn ideal for hotdesking. Downside, is that when I'm at home and working on the laptop in the lounge, the wife will MSN me from upstairs to ask when dinner will be ready... | taimur
20/1/2003 15:27 | JL, I affraid when it comes to wireless links I am at a loss. I am sure Apple and PC's can share the same broadband router, but I am not sure about the wirless link aspect. The only problem I could think of is a software one, i.e finding hardware that is PC and Mac compatible. You may wish to visit PC World and make use of their business centre, just say that you are a boss of a multi media company that uses Macs and PC laptops and see what they suggest. | fickena
20/1/2003 13:26 | fickena, I found that XP multiple monitors worked ok for my purposes. Now I'm more interested in having the two laptops share a broadband internet connection wirelessly, and need to confirm I can configure the actiontec access point with modem via a wireless link; or in other words that the configuration does not require a wired link, rgds | jl202
20/1/2003 11:23 | Seeking to deploy wireless broadband home network thru pipex onto one dell laptop and one apple ibook I finally settled on Actiontec. The wireless router access point with modem for about £140 looks a snip when you consider the price of a modem alone. My final configuration question is this, and I wonder if anyone knows the answer: will I be able to configure the AP from the dell with 802.11b card installed, or might the AP need to be permanently wired to a desktop via an ethernet or usb link? Basically I'm after someone who can say: yes it can be done and it does work! rgds | jl202
18/1/2003 00:36 | CURRYPASTY, you need to go to the tweaks page and check your RWIN. The recommended setting for ADSL is different from the default and can kill performance if wrong. Run their tweak. The link is correct, they seem to be down at the moment. | kayak
18/1/2003 00:22 | fickena..ta for that I get downstream 509 / upstream 267 (inc o/h) I assume my connection is OK then, and problem is pc. Its not really a problem, but when Ive got a dozen windows open, many streaming, it all goes a bit slow. While on about pc's, If I bought a new un, how do I link up loads of monitors to it? btw, i cant get 'tweaks' page up. | currypasty
17/1/2003 14:49 | The only problem with allowing pinging is that someone could, in principle, mount a denial of service attack against you by sending you constant pings. No one is at all likely to choose you to do this to of course, it's an extremely small risk. However I don't understand why they would recommend you allow pinging unless it's simply that they can't perform the test unless you do. | kayak
17/1/2003 14:35 | thanks for that, the main recomendation is to allow pinging.. is that OK ? | currypasty
17/1/2003 09:01 | Pasty, Go to and run the test. Mine is (although I have loads of things running, but still not bad) Downstream 430 Kbps (53.8 KB/sec) 464 Kbps (inc. overheads) Upstream 242 Kbps (30.3 KB/sec) 261 Kbps (inc. overheads) There is also a Tweak section to make sure that you PC is correctly set up to use Broadband. it runs a test and lets you know what to do. Good Luck PS What most people comment on Broadband is that web pages don't seem to open much faster. True, a web page is usually so small that is takes the same with 56k and 512k. But you can have multiple pages open, check mail and download all at the same time and much much faster. | fickena
17/1/2003 00:49 | Try satellite broadband , I think you can get it around the same price , but the uplink is still by bt landline and you need a dish like sky's unit. Some business can get upto 1500 grant for kit. However watch out for hutchinson 3g ,they reckon that they will have an all u can eat tariff 40-50 per month. Plug your pc in via a data cable and hey presto broadband internet connection. only problem is phones are gonna be around 400 quid to start off. This will be the offering which will undermine fixed line broadband, especially when the other networks come in with their deals and competition brings costs down. | triplepack
17/1/2003 00:44 | I pay BT £25 / month for Surftime this is more than their wholesale ADSL charge and they do not have to install any special kit. Unless they are forced to they have no incentive to ever upgrade my exchange. | optimist
16/1/2003 20:34 | Yes you do , you tight git :-) | taximania
16/1/2003 15:39 | Ive recently switched to BT broadband, but cant see much speed difference from my old home highway configuation. Has anybody any ideas for tweaking my pc, or to see full benefit of broadband do I need a new un. | currypasty
16/1/2003 14:48 | jl202, Broadband connectivity is not a dot com industry, it is a key operational requirement for any business nowadays! My main company servers are in the CZ republic (I know, it's cheap!) and all of my consultants, developers, trainers, telesales, support, admin, etc work off these servers no matter where they are in the world, giving optimum services levels to our clients and internally whenever and wherever. If I couldn't offer that, I wouldn't have a business! | taimur |
