Notice of share buy back

Brierley Investments Limited (BIL) gives notice that it intends to purchase on
market, through the New Zealand Stock Exchange, up to 100 million (3.3%) of its
own shares at a price of up to 50 cents per share.

No buybacks will be concluded before Friday 10th September 1999, which is the
day after the scheduled day for the announcement of BIL's 1999 annual results.

Along with the 1999 annual results, BIL will also announce other capital
proposals which may affect the value of BIL shares.

BIL will acquire its own shares pursuant to this notice up to 31 December
1999.
