Notes

1.  Depreciation charge for June 2000 quarter includes the impact of Unit 2 of
    Budge Budge Power Station.

2.  Auditors' Report on the last audited accounts for the year 1998/99 included
    reference to fuel surcharge dues of Rs. 159 Cr. for certain years and dues  
   of West Bengal State Electricity Board for delayed payment surcharge of Rs.  
  62 Cr.  The Company has followed the same basis of accounting in respect of   
 these matters while preparing the above unaudited financial results.
