O-I Glass Subsidiary Floats $610 Million Asbestos Bankruptcy Settlement

A bankrupt subsidiary of O-I Glass Inc., one of the world's largest makers of glass container products, has proposed a $610 million settlement to resolve costly litigation arising from manufacturing thermal insulation products that contained asbestos, a cancer-causing mineral.

The proposed settlement, made public in papers filed Wednesday in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Wilmington, Del., would create a trust to compensate individuals who allege personal harm from the insulation products. A corporate predecessor stopped making the products more than 60 years ago.

It is unclear why Gates has invested so heavily in farmland, but could be connected to climate change
Land owned directly and through Gates' investment entity, Cascade Investment
Cascade Investment's money manager, Michael Larson, is reportedly to be Gates's land portfolio manager



Bill Gates, the billionaire founder of Microsoft, has been revealed as the biggest private owner of farmland in the US, after buying up 242,000 acres in 18 states.

The tech mogul, who is the fourth richest person in the world with a net worth of $121billion, according to Forbes, has quietly built up a massive agriculture portfolio.

The 65-year-old's largest holdings include 69,071 acres in Louisiana, 47,927 acres in Arkansas, 25,750 acres in Arizona, 20,588 acres in Nebraska and 16,097 in Washington state.
