I have not posted on here for a long time due to past political content but feel I have no choice now, on a topic unrelated to the takeover. I am an Aviva pensioner from my L&E days. Fortunately I have multiple company pensions and no reliance on my Aviva pension. However today I received the notice of annual increases. Pensions accrued after April 1997 have increases specified in the pension terms but those accrued before that date only receive discretionary increases. This year Aviva have awarded 0% increase on pre-April 1997 pension. This will disproportionately affect the oldest and most vulnerable of Aviva's pensioners and is a quite disgusting act by a company which claims to value its staff. I am putting this information out there to both shame the company and to ensure that it is not kept quiet because others do not want to put their heads above the parapet.

Are there any indications on the timetable for the next takeover steps ?

The basic question for me is how will I, as an AV shareholder, benefit from this takeover. Cost synergies will presumably be spelled out in the prospectus but what about the risk to the dividend a long drawn out CMA review and possibility of rejection due to market share. As of now I am not convinced.

Interesting that, if you buy DLG shares at the current share price of 255p, you get just over half your money back on takeover, plus the rest in AV. shares at an effective price of 420p compared to the current share price of 490p.

Sunday Times "Direct line boss hits out at Aviva bid" Echo's previous view of opportunistic. Sir Peter Wood said raising offer 10% would be "fair result" Pandora "raising offer to 270p would be acceptable to both Aviva and DLG holders. My view is market is receptive to this takeover even at c270p and we may see Av SP climbing after deal there by benefiting current DLG and Av holders.

Sounds like hostile takeover
Win, win for AV, as long as they don't overpay. Takeover at a decent price looks good value for AV but not much lost if they walk away.

Direct Line taking a beating. Must be sorry they dint accept takeover from Belgiums

THE SUNDAY TIMES. "Direct Line bidder seeks more deals" "The Belgian insurer....is on the hunt for another takeover in Britain as it sets its sights on becoming a market leader" "If there is an interesting opportunity we will look at it" said Ageas chief.

1rob, I like your idea of an Aviva/LGEN merger. I suspect there would be a lot of scrutiny from the regulators. I don't think major M & A is Blancs style. So far its been simplification followed by organic growth. But why not? The cost synergies would be huge. I do agree with your comment about the Aviva management leading it, but suspect that is easier said than done particularly if its a nil premium merger of equals rather than a takeover

Something is up today. FTSE is stalling, yet aviva up almost 2%. Would love some takeover speculation. Aviva is my biggest holding.
Can a takeover be in the offing when a director buys ? Don’t think they can for a few weeks. Or am I wrong ?
That’s an interesting thought. Was thinking more an NWG takeover of AV.then selling of the insurance arm.

“If there will be a takeover offer, what could be the offer price per share?”
