TIDM52IP RNS Number : 3627B Welsh Water Utilities Finance PLC 26 October 2009 News from Dwr Cymru Welsh Water 26 October 2009 The Board of Glas Cymru is pleased to announce that Professor Stephen Palmer, MA, MB, BCHir, FRCP, FFPH, Head of Profession for Epidemiology at the Health Protection Agency, has been appointed a non-executive director of Glas Cymru Cyfyngedig and Dwr Cymru Welsh Water with immediate effect. Professor Palmer has been a leading figure in public health in Wales for over 25 years, including as Head of the Public Health Services Laboratory Communicable Disease Surveillance Centre in Wales. Currently he is a Member of the National Expert Panel on Emerging Infections, a Member of the National Institute of Health Research Public Health Programme Advisory Board and, as Professor of Epidemiology and Public Health at Cardiff University, the Programme Director for Public Health Medicine Training in Wales. Lord Burns, Chairman of Glas Cymru, said: "Welsh Water's most important responsibility is the supply of safe drinking water and protection of public health. This appointment ensures that the Board continues to have the benefit of the highest possible expertise in this key area. Stephen's professional experience in all matters to do with public health speaks for itself and we are delighted to welcome him onto the Board." Professor Palmer will be a member of the Quality and Environment Committee, the Remuneration Committee and Nomination Committee of the Board.
