gumarabic - why are you so negative on so many stocks doing so well, like LOOK today for instance. Almost have if you want to talk down those you don't yet hold imo.

I advise you read through the recent trading here, there's a new boss and H2 results were far better than many have possibly taken a look at. If the europeans are staying at home too then Avis Europe are doing well out of that. Yep, there's risk here, I'm sure tho that the fact fewer might not holiday this year isn't new news and if investors hadn't seen that coming by now then I'd be surprised - it's in the price imo - most shares have a depression factored in, we are having a mild recession according to the item club today. I think the market will look through the next 6 months and start to realise how well many of these co's will do then - I'm sure Crispin Odey hasn't invested without knowing that there will be fewer going on holdiay this year.

My bet is there's a lot waiting to buy a dip here - lets see if it flies again the second it starts to turn blue?

yep, me too - been buying for weeks - hard work to get hold of the shares.

The thing is punters remember stocks they held. For the past 3 years these have only done 1.6p to 2p yet in 2005 they were trading at 60p. If these start doing 3-4p eps it's quite possible these get back to 30p as they were last July if investors believe there's good growth in the coming years.

so are you saying its 50% of the 120p launch price, or 50% of the recent dismal lows around 50p which encouraged you to buy into a company with a one way signpost on its share price for the last few years?

Brave investor status for those buying into this crock

Investors may find it profitable to keep an eye on the share price of Avis Inc .......symbol CAR.......... on the NYSE
a pattern may develop in which the AVE share price follows the trend of the CAR share price as speculation about a bid for CAR,,fuels speculation about a subsequent bid for AVE........
See ADVFN NYSE:CAR for latest CAR trades

As an ex investor who suffered much pain before gain I retain an interest in the Avis situ
If the share price goes significantly north of 75p when Wall st opens it may herald some action in the US re sale of Avis Inc instead of demerger by Cendant

Que
I think I have misinformed you re the July )6 date for demerger of Avis Inc .....I havent been monitoring Cwndant for a while
....
It looks like Avis Inc will not be demerged until Oct 06 (see below) by which time only Avis Inc and Travel Distribution Services will be left under the Cendant umbrella
Methinks this could well herald an autumn sale of Avis Inc particularly since
the loan note currently being floated by Avis Inc to buy itself from Cendant will be history and the demerger experience of the other 2 Cendant Cos will be over
from an AVE standpoint it gives well over a year since refinancing for Hennessy & Co to turn the business around........Suspect the half year trading update may be the signal for Bidders to review both Avis Inc and AVE....

Proposed Cendant Separation
With Modifications Approved December 9, 2005 by Board of Directors

Proposal to separate Cendant into four independent, publicly traded, pure-play companies:
Real Estate Services - A leader in the residential real estate services sector – largest real estate brokerage franchisor and operator – premier global employee relocation and mobility services company – leading provider of title agency and other settlement services.
> Download Real Estate Services Fact Sheet

Travel Distribution Services - A powerful portfolio of global brands – strong U.S. and international presence – a leader in the growing travel intermediary sector.
> Download Travel Distribution Services Fact Sheet

Hospitality Services - One of the world's largest lodging companies, with nine of the best-known brands – will now include Cendant's leading timeshare exchange business, RCI, and the Vacation Rental Group, recently combined and renamed the Vacation Network Group (VNG).
> Download Hospitality Fact Sheet

Vehicle Rental Services - One of the largest general-use car rental businesses in the U.S. with two of the most-recognized brands in its sector, Avis and Budget.
> Download Vehicle Rental Services Fact Sheet

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Shareholders will own 100% of the equity in all four companies.

Expected to be achieved through three 100% spin-offs: Real Estate Services and Hospitality in the spring and summer of 2006, respectively, and Travel Distribution Services in October 2006.
Expected to be tax-free for Cendant and its shareholders.
Transaction is intended to unlock the value of Cendant's strong businesses for the benefit of shareholders.

Reduces complexity, facilitating clearer understanding and fairer market valuation.
Allows investors to choose how to diversify their Cendant holdings.
Attracts new interest from investors who may not have been as interested in Cendant's aggregate holdings.
Transaction should have no effect on the operation of Cendant's business units.

No change in relationships, in general, with customers, franchisees and other business partners.
Most employees should see no significant changes in daily responsibilities.
Refinancing of Cendant's public corporate debt securities will be apportioned among Real Estate Services, Hospitality and Travel Distribution companies.

No legacy corporate debt for Vehicle Rental Services, but it will assume existing debt related to rental vehicle assets.
Completion of the proposed transaction is subject to certain conditions, including final approval by Cendant's Board, but a shareholder vote is not required.

For more information, please see Cendant's Form 10-Q for the quarter ended September 30, 2005 and Form 8-K filed on December 13, 2005.

mat
suggest you get out before the 16 dec trading statement if you are in profit
I reckon there is little chance the ave share price will climb much above 75p since we are now in the region of break even for the big investors holding 25% of the free market stock for over 2yrs
ie any move by them to get out will cause a catastrophic fall in the share price .....

having said that .....I got out at 64p on the same rationale.........so maybe holding on will be the best strategy.......

8 June 05 Deutche Bank announce 3.43% holding
30 June 05 Deutche Bank announce under 3% holding
Minimum disposal 0.44% = 2.6M

Actual Trading Volume from 8 June to 29 June 05 = Approx 7.5M

ie Disposal by Deutche Bank of a minimum of 2.6M shares accounted for around one third of the trading volume
Looking at big parcels over 100000 shares to identify these trades indicates that
Deutche Bank only got around 55p to 56p per share ...This is a distress price suggesting that no other institution was interested in buying
.And yet
Minimum volumes at which brokers would quote a firm share price to the little man remained at a paltry 12000 to 15000 shares until 1 July when it jumped to 50000 shares
Suggesting
The Brokers took up the DB volume themselves as they at least thought the share price would rise
They then demonstrated this by holding on to stock until the share price was well over 60p
Lesson for share price in immedate term

.......DB have probably sold to fund some of the cost of the rights issue and hence are into AVE for the medium term albeit with some misgivings
......The other big investors seem happy to fork out net extra money to fund their rights issue suggesting they also are digging in
.......The little mans share of the market will continue at around 3to 4 % of the share capital albeit with higher liquidity due to the rights issue
Hence in the absence of major movements by big investors
The attitude of the little man will influence the share price in the immediate term
