RNS No 6988n ATLANTIC RICHFIELD COMPANY 30th September 1998 ARCO President William E. Wade Retires LOS ANGELES, Sept. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- ARCO (NYSE: ARC) Chairman and CEO Mike Bowlin announced today that ARCO President William E. Wade will retire from the company. Bowlin commended Wade's accomplishments at ARCO and credited him for his leadership in helping facilitate the company's growth. Bowlin said that Wade was instrumental in leading multiple negotiations with ARCO's partners in Prudhoe Bay that materially increased the value of the company's Alaskan assets. In addition, Bowlin said that Wade played key roles in championing exploration and production initiatives that "set the tone" for the company's commitment to upstream growth. He also credited Wade for opening the door to negotiations that resulted in ARCO's recent acquisition of Union Texas Petroleum, a move that strengthened ARCO's global position. "On a personal level," said Bowlin, "I shall miss Bill's wise counsel and strong leadership." Wade joined ARCO in 1968 as a planning coordinator in its North American producing division in Dallas. He went on to hold a number of planning and financial positions before moving to the newly formed ARCO Exploration Company, where he served as vice president of finance and then vice president of land. Wade later became an ARCO vice president and led Corporate Planning in Los Angeles. He moved to Alaska in 1987 as president of ARCO Alaska. In 1990 he was made president of ARCO Oil and Gas Company. He later returned to Los Angles as an executive vice president and member of the board of directors. In January 1998 he was named president of ARCO.
