But we are also optimistic, buoyed by the strength of our brand and our business, the technology we offer and will deliver over the coming year, and most of all the skill and diligence of our staff."

and not one PI has noticed how good this company has performed...institutions have noticed though, and seem to be stake building slowly. The share price is creeping up every day since results. I got lucky with my timing for once - I bought in on results day at 67p so happy to be invested here for the first time, but for a long time.

Yes I agree "craffert" what a set of results only 6% rise, suprising. I am new here bought in on Monday nobody seems to be aware of "AND", they have -gearing and a roce of 14, the change of brokerage hopefully will spread the word.

In Irish press it hinted that there could be a potential counter bid for this from the Murtagh clan of Kingspan wealth and the ex-CEO. Could be a few more pennies in this for shareholders if they hold strong..

Anyone have any of these? I use their products, which are extremely good! The price has been drifting up these last few days, despite no trades being recorded. Is this normal? Will the price just collapse again if a sale goes through?

This share's natural level is 44-50p

If it doesn't continue to grow sales and margis even that valuation could come under pressure.

This needs some corporate action either taken over or a major purchase.

The culture of the opeation is under threat as well with the new management - hard hats time!!

I bought in at 70 and have topped up twice since then. Looking strong at present but my stop loss is in place.

The entrepreneur
Hugh Cormican, managing director of Andor Technology, Belfast

Some physicists do not dream of academic achievement. "I went into physics with the idea I wanted to be in business," says Hugh Cormican. "I anticipated that after my PhD I would work for a big multinational, get some experience, and then set up on my own."

However, an opportunity presented itself much sooner, while Cormican was still studying for his PhD at Queen's University, Belfast, in the late 1980s. As a tool for their laser research, he and colleague Donal Denvir used their physics know-how to build a highly sensitive digital camera. They set up Andor Technology to develop it into a commercial product for use in scientific research. "It knocked my PhD project back a wee while," he admits.

Andor is now worth £30 million, and has about 150 staff around the world. Scientists use the company's cameras for photographing everything from faint galaxies to living tissue. For example, one is used to record how proteins work. Biologists add fluorescent chemicals to a sample of tissue, and illuminate them with laser light. Strapped to a microscope, the camera picks up changes in the fluorescence, which can reveal how a protein binds itself to a surface, for instance. A highly sensitive camera is vital because if the illumination is too strong you'll disturb the cell or even kill it.

Cormican manages to balance an understanding of this technical side of Andor with business acumen. "I like to spend time in the lab with my sleeves rolled up, but I also like to get out and meet people. It's not a chore. I still think it's one of the best jobs in the world.

"I do think that physics is a fundamentally good subject for entrepreneurs. Business is something physicists tackle with similar zeal to tackling other problems: you build a model and test it; if it works you go further, otherwise you change the model," he says.

Nor does Cormican think the stereotypical introversion of physicists is a serious barrier to business success. "Physicists have this reputation for geekiness, but things have moved on - the geeks mostly run the world now."

Unprecedented political stability in Northern Ireland will undoubtedly boost this company as the economy in the province stabilises.

Good underlying results and a strong management team - a buy?

Pity the FT have dropped it from the list!
