Hedgehog,

Well, given the low valuation (cushioned by the cash element), and the indication of a deal in the near term, it is essentially free money here - there will be a raising, but that is expected.

The problem is getting hold of a decent line - I have been picking up a few tranches, but, in single digits it has proven remarkably difficult.

ACO haven't added their final results from two days ago to their website yet, but they are busy with other things so allowances should be made.

I've also just noticed this from the home page, which I haven't seen before:

"Warning
It has come to the attention of the Directors of Acorn Minerals plc that certain unauthorised individuals are offering employment with Acorn. The applicant is asked to pay a visa application fee. Please be advised that this is NOT the actions of Acorn Minerals nor anyone associated with the company nor in any way authorised by the company. Acorn Minerals is NOT seeking to employ anyone at present."

Sellers are unlikely to step up against a 15% spread. News should transform this.

It is proving particularly difficult to buy a reasonable stake - and there are no sellers stepping up to improve liquidity.

This will go substantially higher from here on any whiff of a deal.

Bear trap below all time lows, can really see this taking off once we get a break past 10p.

First time we have had any sign of news on the horizon, I am sure buyers have clocked onto this.

Well I was reluctant to buy ACO before as unsure on time frames but reading todays RNS it does seem as they have closed in on a few 'targets' and should not take them long to close the deals out.

Perfect oppoturnity to buy around the 10p mark. Cash equal to around cap...can see this bagging in the short term as aniticpation of news drives it higher.

FBDU is a perfect example of this share price went vertical on possible deal, took a while to get going but once it did it went mental.

Yes, this is what I was hoping for, i.e. signs of progress compared to earlier (the interim report talked of preliminary due diligence), as with NHO recently.

And interestingly both NHO and ACO use the phrase "in the near future".

Progress seems to have been moving at a snail's pace, but even snails get there eventually.

And other things being equal, the bigger the deal, the longer it takes ... so on that basis we could potentially be in for a whopper.

A nice snippet in todays RNS saying near term deal, now we have confirmation of near term I am a buyer.

Could well see 15p-20p pre news imo

ACO's final results for the year ending 31st. March 2016 should be announced by the end of the month judging from the last three years.

And perhaps even on Monday (18th. July) if they're following a similar schedule to last year:

17/07/2015 09:25 UKREG Acorn Minerals PLC Final Results
31/07/2014 12:30 UK Regulatory (RNS & others) Acorn Minerals PLC Final Results
28/06/2013 15:54 UK Regulatory (RNS & others) Acorn Minerals PLC Annual Financial Report

It will be interesting to see whether there is any mention of progress towards a RTO.

Just over a week old, but still of interest:

"Acorn Minerals plc Increases Again; Strong Momentum for Buyers

The stock of Acorn Minerals plc (LON:ACO) is a huge mover today! The stock increased 11.11% or GBX 1 on June 30, hitting GBX 10. About 40,000 shares traded hands. Acorn Minerals plc (LON:ACO) has declined 11.36% since November 26, 2015 and is downtrending. It has underperformed by 10.61% the S&P500. A couple of months ago ACO had a significant overhang, but for which the recent spate of buying would probably have driven the share price much higher.

This overhang is now gone, although there is intermittent selling which is keeping the share price down for the moment.

Bearing in mind that some holders have been in this shell for nearly four years, it's hardly surprising that some may wish to take advantage of relative decent liquidity here recently to sell a few.

Over the years though I've seen multiple cases where large private investors (who can be very impatient) and institutions have sold at the bottom shortly before a share multibagged.
Buying is usually a better indicator of attractiveness, because people sell for many reasons, whereas buyers usually only buy because they think that it's a good investment ... and they have thousands of alternative shares to choose from.

Here's some extracts from another old post on this thread which is worth revisiting (note that the figures given are now obviously different ... not least the share price - currently 9.375p):

jumbone 19 Apr'15 - 11:04 - 70 of 222 2 0

"... Having said that, from connections arise RTO opportunities

Objectively I would analyse ACO as this...

>> Cash on hand on 30 Sept 2014 with them was = £1,270,381

>> Total Shares in issue being = 14,288,005

>> The Cash on hand per each share = 8.89 Pence

>> Current share price = 15.75 Pence

>> share price Premium = 6.86 Pence

>> share price Premium Percentage = 43.55%

>> I would attribute this premium due to clean management, them not having to dilute ACO for their salary & expenses, because of the management's associations with NHO, PHE, VELA, and several other from whom they are compensated.

>> However, these premiums would become insignificant, if and when they bring in a credible, viable, promising corporate entity into the equation. ...

>> In addition, there seem to be similar happenings both here and in ASX, where, coincidentally significant amount of shares is owned the very same 2 persons

>> The recent history of trading pattern here clearly indicates a penchant for clean shells, where the share price has risen in some to up to nearly 10 time.

>> In view of that recent history and these unusual trading pattern, I would rather be in to reap the astronomical benefits by taking a very tiny risk"

YasX,

The possibility that ACO might be working on a deal with NHO is an intriguing one ... but what could it mean - a joint RTO (reverse takeover?).

I've not heard of that happening before, but it would imply a type of 3-way merger, as the private entity reverses into two listed shells simultaneously.
The combined share capital of the new company would then be allocated into two parts: one to the LSE, and one to the ASX. (With the shares transferrable between exchanges if 'fungible'.)

Such an instant dual-listing could be an attractive inducement to a big private entity, though it would be a complex deal requiring a lot of time (which both ACO and NHO have certainly had!)

NHO has been suspended on the ASX since last October:

"13 October 2015 New Horizon Coal Limited SUSPENSION The securities of New Horizon Coal Limited (the “Company”) will be suspended from official quotation immediately under Listing Rule 17.3. The Company’s securities will remain suspended until the Company is able to demonstrate compliance with Chapter 12 of the ASX Listing Rules."

"ASX is basically saying you cant just sit as a shell and be listed
so this should be the kick in the pants they need to finalize an acquisition"

However, no RTO agreement has been signed yet by either company, which is why ACO itself hasn't been suspended.

All,

This is particularly illiquid - notwithstanding that, I have been taking a few recently, and suspect a deal may soon appear. Mindful of the fact they have been reviewing a plethora of potential transactions, it might be a stellar one.

if the deal is favourable, well, watch this move markedly higher.

Long-termers here may recall a long post here from DownUnder last year (some extracts posted at the end of this post), which suggested that something was brewing with Tony Brennan's ASX-listed NHO.

Interestingly, two 10th. March 2016 posts on the NHO Hot Copper board report that a near-term NHO deal is expected:

The Wild Man Date:10/03/16 Time:10:52:11
""The Board is confident the Group will consummate a transaction in the near future, as such the financial report has been prepared on a going concern basis".
Is this something new or expected ?
I'm new to NHO as a prospect."

ccmfc Date:10/03/16 Time:17:30:57
"Nice pick up!
I had missed that when skimming the report.
This is a hint something is on its way imo as previous releases have all been along the lines of the company looking and updating the market when a deal is done.
That statement appears to imply the likelihood of news soon.
Will be good to see what they pick up and get this stock trading again!"

The question is, why did the number of ACO trades p.c.m. increase by nearly a hundred-fold from April to June this year?

There has been no ACO RNS this year (though its full year results are imminent), and no recent press coverage that I can see.

There hasn't even been that much bulletin board posting, and what there has been has been mainly reactive.

The logical explanation is that a big deal is brewing behind the scenes, which some people have got wind of: e.g. by using their 'skill & initiative'.

The management here have certainly had sufficient time to arrange something, and ACO Chairman Tony Brennan was buying in heavily last year:

21/04/2015 13:53 UK Regulatory (RNS & others) Acorn Minerals PLC Director/PDMR Shareholding
"9. Number of shares, debentures or financial instruments relating to shares acquired

After falling back to below 10p recently, I have to say that the ACO support and volume is impressive - especially in nervous markets after the Brexit vote.

Today's intra-day dip from 9.5p to 8.5p at about 1p.m. lasted under 15 minutes before it had rebounded all the way back on a series of buys.

And the share price then finished up 0.375p on the day at 9.875p, on volume of 310,364 shares traded (that's over 2% of the shares in issue).

And in fact the day's high was 10.625p in a spike shortly after noon.

Cheers Hedge. Spot on, directors shouldn't be buying but as you point out Anthony slipped up last year. Can't figure out what's going on. There are times through the day you can only buy 100 shares before going to NT but can sell 100,000 but the share price hasn't really moved. This shell on the outside looks to have something brewing.

Phil,

Thanks for your excellent post two days ago.

Hopefully this will finally come good after years of waiting.

P.S. We're in the close period before ACO's results, so the directors shouldn't really be buying ... though that didn't stop Tony Brennan last year!

Mms will take 112,000 over bid without going to NT For such an illiquid stock, why are they so keen?I'd guess we may have a director buying in quantity in the open market. Huge spread trying to discourage any trading of any sort. Just trying to flush out the occasional seller.
