Headline:ABB motors for Singapore reservoir
Publication date:02 November 2006

ABB motors have been selected to stabilise water levels in a giant freshwater reservoir which forms part of a dam and tidal barrier system being built to protect Singapore from flooding.

When completed in 2007 the giant Marina Barrage tidal barrier will span the 350m wide Marina Channel and separate downtown Singapore from the open sea of the Singapore Strait. The barrage will create a giant freshwater reservoir that will supply one-sixth of the city-state's needs for drinking water while protecting low-lying districts from high tides and monsoon flooding.

The reservoir will help meet Singapore's growing demand for water. By 2011, consumption is expected to increase by about one-third. About 50 per cent of Singapore's potable water is now imported from Malaysia.

When the reservoir water level rises during the monsoon rains, seven high-capacity pumps driven by seven ABB motors will keep the water level stable and prevent it from spilling over into nearby areas that are prone to flooding.

Singapore's national water agency PUB selected ABB's 1600 kilowatt, 6.6 kilovolt medium voltage motors and three alternators to supplement the power supply and provide standby power during blackouts.

Hello waldron

I too have read the book by the American dancer and I also like his method of trading (Buy high and sell higher)

I was attracted to this share by its chart - I am not a chartist you understand but when you have been moving in & out of shares for a few years you do tend to get a feeling about these things.

My favorite type of chart is the patten of a steep fall from it's initial placing followed by a strong upward recovery e.g. VEL and UMN.

But I have also found that a chart like ANN's is also very interesting because it is a pure momentum chart, very similar to CKSN, and also MCA before it broke through it's previous high.

These type of charts just seem to carry on under their own steam until we hit another market down turn like last May.

The reason that I am looking at ANN is because I have a reasonable holding in AHT which I am going to sell first thing tomorrow (This share seems to be able to talk the talk but not walk the walk) and I am sitting here deliberating between going into ANN, or CKSN, but I have to say that the in my opinion the most compelling chart on my radar at the moment is JMI - anyway, I live on the west coast of Ireland and tomorrow is a Bank Holiday so I will have plenty of time to deliberate over a cup of tea and a piece of toast in the morning.

I cannot post very regularly because we only have a very primitive internet service on the west coast (at least seven attempts to get a connection, which never lasts more than ten minutes - if it's raining no connection at all) but I will be in touch if I can get online later in the week sometime.

Good luck for next week.

Nephin

not sure at this early stage.

certainly on a personal level,i will sell a part holding before it reaches
usd 17 or sfr 21.42.

watch and wait there after and then hopefully in again more cheaply.

having said that, a friend of mine would totally disagree and await the ride
above usdĀ§7 and sfr21.42.

Anyways a good Long Term Play imo.

cheers

Thank you for the info, the chart looks extremely promising.

What do you make of the threatened fine from the E.C.?

It obviously doesn't bother the Americans.

Fri 17:47 EU to fine suspected cartel in power generation equipment - sources AFX UK Focus
LONDON (AFX) - The European Commission is reportedly poised to slap fines before the end of the year on a suspected cartel in power generation equipment, sources said.

Although the amount of the total fine to be lodged against the firms involved has not yet been set, it could in theory reach 10 pct of annual sales.

Among the companies facing action are French groups Schneider, Alstom, and Areva, German conglomerate Siemens, Swiss-Swedish engineering group ABB, Austrian group VA Tech and Japanese companies Mitsubishi and Hitachi, sources familiar with the case said.

Acting on a tip-off, regulators conducted raids on the groups' premises in May 2004. Two years later, the EU competition watch-dog took the final step before official sanctions against them by issuing statements of objections.

The European Commission reportedly suspects that the companies may have jointly fixed prices and carved up the market among themselves for gas-insulated switchgear, used to control the flow of energy in electricity grids at power sub-stations.

EU Competition Commissioner Neelie Kroes has waged an anti-cartel campaign this year, targeting about 10 cartels, nearly double last year's figure. newsdesk@afxnews.com afp/rw
