Westlin Corporation (Pink Sheets:WSTN) is pleased to
announce an agreement with CellCast Communications for the U.S.
license of the cell broadcast technology which transmits emergency
messages in seconds to cell phones in specified geographic areas. Cell
broadcast is currently used in areas of Europe and the Pacific Rim for
immediate notification of emergencies and hazards. Under the terms of
the agreement, Westlin holds exclusive rights for deployment of the
emergency notification technology in the U.S.
The CellCast Communications' technology offers a revolutionary
cellular-based system that instantly broadcasts text messages to large
numbers of people specific to a geographical area via cellular
telephones. This system uses a feature already built into most cell
phones to alert users to impending disasters, such as the tsunami that
devastated Southeast Asia.
Warnings of natural disasters, terrorist attacks, chemical
explosions, and other life-threatening events can now be delivered
over cell phones by federal, state or local government entities. The
new system updates the FCC's archaic Emergency Alert System, which is
under a presidential executive order (6/26/06) to be updated,
utilizing the most current technology available. Cell broadcast is
operating successfully in Holland and South Korea; it is being
implemented by the Airadigm/Einstein PC Wireless cellular network in
Wisconsin. The cell broadcast technology is supported by the United
Nations in New York City and currently is being researched by the New
York City Mayor's office. Department of Homeland Security and FEMA
officials are working closely with CellCast Communications as part of
their mandate to update emergency notification systems.
The cell broadcast system is not only capable of delivering
messages to individuals as part of an updated emergency alert system,
but can also accommodate the needs of the commercial market.
Commercial applications can include delivery of entertainment content,
advertising messages, traffic alerts, timely tourism information,
school closings, schedule changes, and more. The cell broadcast system
operations will be located at the Westlin Campus.
Experience in other countries estimates revenues at approximately
$1 per handset within the region seeking emergency cell broadcast
coverage. Commercial applications promise to deliver significant
additional revenues.
