Trulite, Inc. (OTCBB:TRUL), a developer of fuel cell technology and
products, announces the Trulite KH4, a portable fuel cell that generates
clean electricity. With 150 watts of continuous generating capacity and
up to 200 watts of peak capacity, the Trulite KH4 will be one of the
first, and more powerful, portable fuel cells to be introduced into the
market.
The KH4, which is currently undergoing internal testing, is designed to
provide power for residential and commercial users in situations where
grid power is not convenient or not available. Key targets for the
Trulite KH4 include outdoor enthusiasts, industrial users, homeowners,
businesses and other users looking for a safe, portable power source.
For example, the KH4 may be used to power 12V and 120V devices, such as
a small refrigerator, a laptop computer or a DVD player, quietly and
safely while on a camping trip. An industrial user may use a KH4 to
recharge power tool batteries at a construction site.
“Fuel cells are a next generation technology
not only because they provide power when the power grid is not
available, but also because they offer a safer, more
environmentally-friendly power source than traditional generators,”
said Jonathan Godshall, President and CEO, Trulite. “The
fuel canisters are compact and can be stored safely for an indefinite
period of time, and hydrogen is a renewable resource.”
The Trulite KH4 is the result of nearly three years of development and
testing. The KH4 technology uses a dry hydride fuel source and a
sophisticated control system to deliver hydrogen to the product’s
fuel cells, generating only heat and water as byproducts. Moreover, the
Trulite KH4 is unique from other current fuel cell products in that it
can provide power both from the fuel cell and from its advanced
high-energy lithium ion batteries. The two 400 watt-hour fuel cartridges
can provide power for up to eight hours with the unit operating at 60
percent of capacity.
The cost of the fuel is expected to be about the same as the hourly cost
for gasoline in a traditional generator. Because of its integration of
cartridges and batteries, the KH4 generates power immediately and is
able to adapt to appliances that have intermittent energy requirements.
About Fuel Cell Technology
A fuel cell is a device that generates electricity as hydrogen is
combined with oxygen and passes through a membrane, which separates the
hydrogen into protons and electrons. The water that results from this
process is re-circulated in the Trulite KH4. While the fuel cell
generates direct current, alternating current can also be provided by
using an inverter.
Fuel cells were used as early as the Apollo spaceflight missions to the
moon, combining hydrogen and oxygen to provide electricity and drinking
water to astronauts. Since that time, they have become the focus of
development for stationary and portable power generation systems, and
fuel-cell-powered electric vehicles.
Products currently utilizing fuel cell technology include fuel cell
buses, military applications, auxiliary power units, remote power and
other transportation applications.
