Speedus Updates on Patent Suits Against Verizon Wireless and Alltel

NEW YORK, Jan. 22  /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Speedus Corp. (NASDAQ:SPDE) today announced updates in the separate patent litigation suits against Verizon Wireless and Alltel. Speedus is asserting infringement of two owned patents: U.S. Patent No. 5,949,793, "Transmission of Digital and Analog Signals in the Same Band", and U.S. Patent No. 4,747,160, "Low Power Multi-Function Cellular Television System".

Verizon Wireless

On May 11, 2006, Speedus filed two separate complaints against Cellco Partnership (d/b/a Verizon Wireless) in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida, in which Speedus asserts Verizon Wireless is infringing two Speedus patents. Verizon Wireless is a joint venture of Verizon Communications Inc. (NYSE:VZ) and Vodafone Group PLC (NYSE and LSE: VOD).

Trial for one of the law suits was set to commence on February 19, 2007, rescheduled from the original date of January 22, 2007. Thereafter, on July 27 and September 12, 2006, both cases were transferred to the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey. Trial dates in New Jersey have not been set for either law suit, Case No. 06-CV-04097-FLW-TJB in connection with U.S. Patent No. 4,747,160 or Case No. 06-CV-04514-FLW-TJB in connection with U.S. Patent No. 5,949,793.

Alltel

On June 2, 2006, Speedus filed two separate complaints against Alltel Corp. (NYSE:AT) in United States District Court in the Southern District of Florida, in which Speedus asserts Alltel is infringing two Speedus patents.

On September 14, 2006, both cases were transferred to the same judge. On October 31, 2006, these cases were consolidated. A trial date has not been set for the consolidated case, Case No. 06-14146-CV-MOORE/LYNCH in connection with both U.S. Patent No. 4,747,160 and U.S. Patent No. 5,949,793.
