Speedus Appoints Vice President of R&D for Wireless Initiatives

NEW YORK, Sept. 21  /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Speedus Corp. (NASDAQ:SPDE) announced today that it has hired Marcos R. Lara to serve as Vice President of Research and Development for Company initiatives involving wireless networking.

Prior to joining Speedus Mr. Lara was a Senior Consultant with the Security & Technology Solutions group of Ernst & Young, where he was responsible for developing methodologies for wireless network design and security and for helping Fortune 50 clients identify and mitigate risks within their IT infrastructure. Mr. Lara is also the managing director and founder of The Public Internet Project, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to the evolution and development of innovative close range wireless technologies and the establishment of free wireless hot spots in urban environments. He is credited with establishing and building the Bryant Park Wireless Network in New York City -- a free, public access wireless network sponsored by both Intel and Google.

Mr. Lara possesses extensive experience in enterprise computing, systems design and systems management, and he is a recognized expert in the establishment and secure operation of wireless networks based on the 802.11a, b, g, or WiFi, standards, an increasingly popular wireless networking technology that utilizes an unlicensed portion of the radio spectrum. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Management and Technology from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.
