GERMANTOWN, Md., June 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Density Dynamics, a majority owned company of Speedus Corp (Nasdaq: SPDE), today released demonstration results showing Jet.io™ Accelerator SSD as a core component in solving a widely recognized problem in performance known as I/O Bottlenecks and described in an Enterprisestorageforum.com™ article by Henry Newman as the "Biggest Threat to Data Storage". The solutions were presented during a live demonstration at the NCLGISA conference on May 27th.

Randy Cress, Sr. Network Administrator from Rowan County Information Systems Department demonstrated both a Citrix XenServer 5.5 and VMware vSphere 4.0 environment operating on a hardware configuration that represented a scaled down version of one of Rowan's data centers with a theoretical 400MBp/s maximum throughput. A speed test setup through a switch attaching both a RAID array of 9 spinning hard drives and a single Jet.io Accelerator compared performance-using Iometer. The 9-drive array delivered approximately 1,100 IOPS with 60MB/s of throughput versus one Jet.io Accelerator, which yielded greater than 38,000 IOPS with 290MB/s of throughput. Separate tests on virtualized servers were conducted using a directly attached Jet.io which ran at 390MB/s equating to 98% of the theoretical bandwidth.

Mr. Cress also performed an MS exchange stress test to debunk the myth that there were inherent VM limitations in his configuration instead of the real problem, which was I/O bottleneck. Using the spinning disk array he was only able to support 500 – 1,000 (non-heavy) users. Deploying the Jet.io technology, he was able to support 4,500 (heavy) users, far beyond their current capability.

The conclusion drawn from the evaluation was that his VM limitations were primarily due to bottlenecks in the storage elements of his infrastructure.  Using a tiered storage solution with the Jet.io drives for key storage functions could free up his current infrastructure, allowing him to improve system performance and to provide for significant growth in user workload without upgrading his current compute or networking infrastructure.
