SMPP CEO, Julienne Audette comments, "The backend programming and base-code foundation is perhaps the most crucial part of the entire process. That said, it's also the least sexy, enveloped in technical code and IT jargon that is not easily digested by those unfamiliar with the various languages and processes involved. We can't thank shareholders enough for their patience as we work diligently to prepare VSP for market. Our goal right now is to have the platform ready to show by early October and ready to go later this fall. The basic platform will be integrated with a cutting-edge, dynamic design for an overall compelling, user-friendly, aesthetically alluring product. Much like a caterpillar in a cocoon, it's what emerges that will truly demonstrate the power of this proprietary technology as part of a 16 billion dollar market."
Audette is right on the money. According to a new report from Borrell Associates, notes John Cook's Venture Blog, local online advertising is forecast to grow by nearly 18 percent in 2011 from $13.7 billion this year to $16.1 billion in 2011. PaidContent notes the bullish forecast, pointing out that Borrell previously had predicted local online ad spending to hit the $16 billion mark in 2012.
The Borrell report suggests that the big driver -- both nationally and locally -- will be targeted display advertising. The firm expects that that market alone will grow almost 60 percent next year to $10.9 billion in national and local ad spend combined.
"While national advertisers will increase their use of targeted display by nearly 50%, local advertisers will outperform even that," the report said. "Use of targeted display by advertisers local to the markets where their ads run will more than double, reaching more than $2.3 billion next year." Another growth area remains streaming video advertising, which is expected to grow by 60 percent next year.
The designers under review for Strategic's VSP are seasoned professionals with extensive experience in both large project development as well as consummate brand architecture and brand equity strategies. "Hitting the marketplace in October is ideal timing for Strategic as many publishers make their big marketing decisions for 2011 in October-November," states Audette. "The branding, in line with a dynamic platform with enormous potential for additional features, not to mention mobile and social networking counterparts, sets us to hit the ground running immediately upon development completion."
Strategic is readying itself for a dense Fall 2010 Trade Show and Conference lineup giving VSP access to thousands of potential publishers and customers coast to coast.
