Wiens has joined the company's Child Safety Advisory Board. Sen. Wiens authored the ground breaking Colorado School Safe law, which variations of have now been adopted by a majority the of States throughout the U.S. The Colorado law creates a mechanism for educators, school districts and schools to be educated in the National Incident Management System, a system of best practices that allows educators to interface better between the community responders and the school districts. The School Response framework is based on the National Response Framework established by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
Wiens is currently Chief Executive Officer of New West Capital, LLC, (NWC), a private merchant banking firm that partners with select companies to provide corporate finance, new-media sales & marketing, investor & community relations and security vulnerability assessments. He is the recipient of the Ernest & Young Entrepreneur of the year award. Wiens was named Legislator of the Year in 2003, Guardian of Small Business by the NFIB and has received the Common Sense Award from the Civil Justice League. He also served on the Board of The Children's Hospital Research Institute Foundation. Wiens earned his Bachelor's degree from The American University in Washington, DC, his Masters of Divinity from Yale University, and also studied international economics at the University of Graz, Austria.
