Nippon Life Insurance said Thursday it will continue to support Olympus Corp. (7733.TO) for now, as it waits for the results of an investigation by a third-party committee into Olympus's attempts to hide investment losses over the last two decades.
While expressing concerns that Olympus didn't disclose accurate information, a senior official at Japan's largest life insurer said that the scandal-hit maker of cameras and medical equipment is still an important company in Japan, given its technological strength.
Nippon Life is one of the largest shareholders in Olympus.
