Thanks to The Answer™, the aseptic dispensing
tap from International Dispensing Corporation (IDC) (IDND.PK), a new
flexible package growth platform – the
Multiserve SafePak™ –
is now available for beverages and liquid foods. The opportunity for
brand owners to increase market share in club-stores, super discount
centers, and foodservice operations is at hand.
Multiserve SafePaks enable shelf-stable liquids in large-format packages
to be dispensed safely and repeatedly over extended time without
refrigeration or power. Critical to Multiserve SafePaks is The Answer™,
a proprietary, user-friendly dispensing technology that prevents
microorganisms and oxygen from compromising product safety, nutritional
value, and taste – even during unrefrigerated,
repeated use.
“The Answer keeps product shelf-stable
throughout its use-life, from first serving to last,”
states Greg Abbott, founder and chairman of International Dispensing
Corporation. “Consumers can now trust that
brands served in Multiserve SafePaks will taste great and stay fresh for
weeks without refrigeration or preservatives.”
He continues, “Our vision to create an
aseptic dispensing technology encountered some early skepticism, but as
companies have reviewed our independent testing –
and conducted tests of their own – interest
in The Answer has broadened and intensified. We are currently in
confidential, advanced discussions with a number of domestic and
multinational companies, who recognize the enormous potential of The
Answer and the Multiserve SafePak. The name ‘Bag-in-Box’
doesn’t do our technology justice.”
Multiserve SafePaks have the added advantage of convenience. Seniors,
children, and people on-the-go can easily dispense juice, organic
beverages, fortified waters, dairy products, coffees and teas, energy
drinks, smoothies, and smooth soups with just a push of a button.
Pouring from heavy, cumbersome bulk containers is no longer necessary.
Spills and cleanups are eliminated. Valuable refrigerated space is
gained since consumers can dispense beverages from attractive Multiserve
SafePaks positioned anywhere in kitchens, work environments, and
recreational areas.
In addition, this multiserve packaging replaces multipacks of
single-served beverages that require use of extra packaging materials
and energy. The new option will help brand owners achieve dramatically
higher sustainability scores.
Greater Food Service Safety, Flavor and Efficiency
Foodservice operations and restaurants can rely on Multiserve SafePaks
for greater safety and freshness of liquid ingredients such as stocks,
sauces, and beverage mixes. Key ingredients can be neatly positioned in
high traffic areas permitting safe dispensing without congestion and
repeated refrigeration. Coffee houses no longer need to expose dairy
products to the air and potential contamination. The Multiserve SafePak
saves cooler space, reduces product and energy waste, and protects
against workplace spills and accidents.
Nourishment to Millions
Multiserve SafePaks with The Answer have the potential to assist in
humanitarian relief. Because refrigeration and power are not required,
beverages can provide on-site nourishment to refugees, impoverished
populations, and disaster victims.
Jane Goodall, Ph.D., DBE, Founder, The Jane Goodall Institute and UN
Messenger of Peace (www.janegoodall.org),
has given The Answer™ the following
endorsement: “I am so delighted that my
friends at IDC have created The Answer™, a
visionary product designed to be a safe, sanitary delivery system for
liquid foods and beverages; one that doesn’t
rely on costly refrigeration and harmful preservatives, and that is
environmentally sustainable and easy to use.
She adds, “The Answer has the promise to
revolutionize how beverages in our world are transported and shared."
The Technology
At the core of the Multiserve SafePak is The Answer, an advanced
polymer-blend aseptic tap that allows users to dispense both low and
high acid liquid products, time after time, from large-format containers
without breaking product sterility. The Answer does not allow
microorganisms, oxygen, or odors to enter the system, effectively
eliminating the need for preservatives and refrigeration. It is the
first package that allows aseptic, non-preserved products to be
dispensed over time from large-format flexible containers.
Over the past six years, three FDA processing authorities have tested
and certified The Answer. Most recently, IEH Laboratories and Consulting
Group, an industry leader in sterility testing, concluded that The
Answer could maintain sterility indefinitely, after repeated dispensing,
in ambient temperatures. Moreover, even after having its nozzle swabbed
with a lethal ten to the ninth power cocktail of microorganisms,
including Listeria monocytogenes, Salmonella, and E.
coli - a level of danger unlikely to occur in real life –
Multiserve SafePaks with The Answer survived for a minimum of 23 days of
repeated use.
The Answer is equipped with double-tamper-evident safety features, as
well as a snap- action, hermetic-sealing actuator, all of which are 100
percent tested in-line.
Multiserve SafePaks can come in a wide variety of shapes, from square to
cylindrical, and offer club stores improved palette coverage and an
enhanced billboard. Aseptic brands can now be safely offered in multiple
servings from three to twenty liters. For foodservice, bags and pouches
can be loaded into standing units, eliminating the need for a box and
reducing costs.

About the Multiserve SafePak
The Multiserve SafePak is a new aseptic multi-serve packaging category
that protects liquid food and beverages from microorganisms and oxygen,
allowing organic, perishable and non-preservative products to retain
freshness, quality, and taste without refrigeration or power.
About Aseptic Packaging Technology
During the aseptic packaging process, sterilization is maintained
throughout the packaging continuum and flash pasteurization ensures that
products that are normally fragile or perishable are made shelf-stable.
The process kills more than 99 percent of food-borne bacteria. Unlike
retort and hot-fill canning, no nutrients are lost in the packaging
process, and product quality and flavor remain virtually unchanged.
