Checkers(R) Promotion Exceeds Expectations
TAMPA, Fla., Nov. 5 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- The Florida Gators(R) maintain a
narrow lead over the Florida State Seminoles(R) in the Checkers(R) Challenge,
with proceeds exceeding expectations. Donations to date total $25,125 to
University of Florida's and $21,423 to Florida State University's athletic
scholarship funds.

"These great results are attributed to the combined efforts of the 123 Company
and franchise Checkers restaurants throughout Florida participating in the
Challenge," said Richard S. Turer, Vice President of Marketing at Checkers
Drive-In Restaurants, Inc. "The overwhelming success of this program will
enable us to contribute well over $50,000 to the universities' athletic
scholarship programs. This, combined with a corporate commitment of an
additional $25,000 in scholarship money to both the University of Florida
College of Food Science and the Florida State School of Hospitality, means
Checkers' total donations will exceed $100,000 this year."
As the Official Burger sponsor of the Gators and Seminoles, Checkers has been
challenging fans since mid-August to purchase Gator Combos or Seminole Combos
to support their favorite teams. Checkers expects to continue this popular
promotion through the Bowl Games, so fans still have time to get in on the
Challenge. Gator and Seminole Combos include a half-pound Double Champ(R) with
cheese, large fries and a large Coke(R) in the fan's choice of a Gator or
Seminole collectible cup.
