Ballistic Recovery Systems, Inc. (Pink Sheets: BRSI), a manufacturer of
whole-aircraft emergency parachute systems, announced today that its
South St. Paul Headquarters location had received its official
Certificate of Registration from the independent auditor BSI Management
Systems indicating its Quality Management System complies with all
requirements of the internationally-recognized ISO 9001:2000 quality
standard. Specifically, BRS’s Quality System
meets or exceeds the ISO quality requirements for “the
design, manufacture, assembly, and service of aerospace and safety
products,” according to the accreditation
organization. “This is a huge step forward for
BRS,” said CEO and President, Larry Williams. “Receiving
formal recognition, via ISO 9001 certification, is the culmination of
months of hard work by everyone in our organization to standardize and
document the already high standards we have always been known for. In
the end, ISO certification wasn’t difficult
since we didn’t have to create a new system…rather,
we simply had to fully document the processes we have consistently been
using for years,” Williams added.
Receiving ISO 9001 recognition is a significant strategic milestone for
any organization adopting a process approach to product design,
manufacture, and service. The BRS certification strategy emphasized the
importance of:
a quality system that is focused on driving customer satisfaction;
a set of procedures that cover all key processes in the business;
monitoring processes to ensure they are effective;
keeping adequate traceability records;
checking output for defects, with appropriate and corrective action
where necessary;
regularly reviewing individual processes and the quality system itself
for effectiveness; and
facilitating continual improvement
“Having a Quality Management System which
complies with ISO 9001:2000 provides BRS with a unique opportunity to
more fully compete for all types of bids, especially in the defense
arena and international marketplace, where achievement of such
recognition is increasingly becoming the standard and a determinant of
ultimate success,” emphasized BRS Quality
Manager, Dave Reiner. This Headquarters certification follows the
successful ISO 9001 certification of BRS’s
Tijuana, Mexico manufacturing facility achieved last year at this time.
