BRUSSELS--Belgacom SA, Belgium's biggest telecommunications operator, Thursday said it has appointed Dominique Leroy as chief executive of the company, which is 53.5% state-owned.
Ms. Leroy has been executive vice president of the Consumer Business Unit of Belgacom since June 2012. She joined Belgacom as vice president sales for the Consumer Business Unit in October 2011, following 24 years at Unilever.
Ms. Leroy predecessor as CEO Didier Bellens was fired late last year following repeated clashes with the government. He had headed Belgacom since 2003, and wasn't due to step down until March 2015, but had fallen out with the government over several issues.
Ms. Leroy will join Jean-Pascal Labille, the minister for state-controlled companies, at a press conference at 1600 GMT. Likely questions include her salary; last September, annual pay for employees at public companies was capped at 290,000 euros ($394,478)--although Belgacom has some flexibility on remuneration as it is only partly state-owned.
