Anthera Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (Nasdaq:ANTH) today announced a positive outcome of the second, pre-specified interim futility analysis for the RESULT Phase 3 clinical study of Sollpura for the treatment of Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency (“EPI”). The second, and final, interim futility analysis was conducted by RESULT’s Data Monitoring Committee which is comprised of experts appointed by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s Therapeutics Development Network. Anthera completed patient recruitment of the RESULT study in November 2017 and is on track to report topline data later this quarter.

"The positive interim futility analysis of the RESULT study represents one of the last clinical milestones ahead of topline data this quarter," shared Craig Thompson, President & CEO of Anthera. “We look forward to sharing the study outcome shortly and potentially providing patients with a new treatment option for their exocrine pancreatic insufficiency therapy.”

Sollpura has the potential to become the first non-porcine pancreatic enzyme replacement therapy (PERT) which may provide a reduction in the size and number of pills for patients with EPI.
