Verizon Wireless to End Sales Through RadioShack 


BEDMINSTER, N.J., Aug. 1  /PRNewswire/ -- Verizon Wireless today announced that it would cease selling its popular wireless voice and data products in RadioShack stores December 31, 2005.  The move comes as RadioShack changes its wireless sales strategy.

"Verizon Wireless and RadioShack are moving in opposite directions as it relates to wireless communications sales," said Lowell McAdam, chief operating officer of Verizon Wireless.  "It no longer made sense to continue the relationship given the high cost of this channel relative to other distribution channels and our insistence that growth and profit be balanced."

Verizon Wireless will continue to expand the sales and customer service support capacity of its existing direct-owned Verizon Wireless stores and retail distribution partners as it moves from a partner to a vigorous competitor of RadioShack.

Customers who purchased their Verizon Wireless service from RadioShack will not be impacted by this decision.  Customers may visit any of the 1,900 Verizon Wireless stores, inclusive of the stores in Circuit City, or shop for Verizon Wireless service at Best Buy, Costco at any of the over 6,000 Verizon Wireless agents nationwide, or online at http://www.verizonwireless.com/ .
