Telefonica Deutschland AG (O2D.XE) said on Wednesday that it plans to partner with Huawei Technologies Co. and Nokia Corp. (NOK) for the rollout of its 5G infrastructure, as it enters an investment phase to improve network quality.
The Munich-based telecommunications company said its network-focused investment program would span two years, and aims to boost rural coverage primarily with 4G, as well as accelerate urban capacity with 5G.
Increased investment will lead to a lower dividend payment for 2019, it said earlier in the day. Telefonica Deutschland plans to pay a EUR0.17 dividend, down from EUR0.27 for 2018. It also said that revenue would grow by at least a cumulated 5% in the three-year period of 2020-22.
Under the program, the company will initially roll out 5G in Berlin, Hamburg, Munich, Cologne and Frankfurt, before expanding coverage to Germany's 30 top cities, it said in a webcast.
The company said its cooperation with China's Huawei and Finland's Nokia is dependant on security certifications in Germany.
