    MIAMI--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 22, 2003--

          IVAX Nominates 2003 Directors; Includes Three New 
                      Independent Directors
 
IVAX Corporation (AMEX:IVX)(LSE:IVX.L) announced today the nominees to
its board of directors for elections to be held at the 2003 annual
meeting of shareholders. The slate includes eight incumbent directors
and three additional independent directors.

The incumbent directors nominated are: Phillip Frost, M.D., Neil
Flanzraich, Jane Hsiao, Ph.D., Mark Andrews, Ernst Biekert, Ph.D.,
Jack Fishman, Ph.D., Richard Pfenniger, Jr. and David Lieberman.

The three additional independent director nominees are:

Betty G. Amos, CPA, is the owner and president of The Abkey Companies,
a franchisee of Fuddruckers restaurants. Ms. Amos holds both Bachelor
and Masters of Business Administration degrees from the University of
Miami and has served on the University of Miami board of trustees
since 1997, including two years as Chair of the audit committee. In
1993, The National Association of Women Business Owners recognized her
as their Outstanding Woman Business Owner.

Modesto A. (Mitch) Maidique, Ph.D., is the President of Florida
International University. During his 17-year tenure at FIU, Dr.
Maidique has presided over the establishment of the Schools of
Architecture, Computer Science, Music and Law, more than doubling
FIU's enrollment to over 34,000 students. Dr. Maidique holds a Ph.D.
from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, is a graduate of the
Harvard Business School, and has taught at MIT, Harvard and Stanford
Universities. He serves on the boards of National Semiconductor and
Carnival Corporations and is a past chairman of The Beacon Council,
Miami's economic development authority.

Bertram Pitt, M.D. has been a Professor of Internal Medicine at the
University of Michigan School of Medicine since 1977, where he also
served as the Director of the Division of Cardiology from 1977 to 1991
and as Associate Chairman for Academic and Industrial Programs from
1991 to 1999. Dr. Pitt was elected to the Johns Hopkins University
Society of Scholars in 2000, received the Forest Dewey Dodrill Award
for Excellence from the American Heart Association in 2001 and the
Paul Dekruif Lifetime Achievement Award from the University of
Michigan in 2002.

IVAX also announced that Isaac Kaye will not stand for re-election to
the IVAX board and at the conclusion of the company's 2003 annual
meeting will retire as IVAX' Deputy Chief Executive Officer and Chief
Executive Officer of the UK division, positions he has held since
1990. Charles M. Fernandez will also not stand for re-election to the
board in order to devote more time to new business ventures. Mr.
Fernandez has served as a director since 1998.

Phillip Frost, M.D., chairman and chief executive officer of IVAX

Frank Condella, who joined IVAX last August as Managing Director in
the UK, will continue to direct IVAX' activities there, as well as
