   HERCULES TO RELEASE THIRD QUARTER 2003 EARNINGS AND HOST CONFERENCE CALL -
                                OCTOBER 30, 2003

WILMINGTON, DE, OCTOBER 14, 2003 . . . Hercules Incorporated (NYSE: HPC) today
announced that it intends to release its third quarter 2003 earnings, before
trading begins on the New York Stock Exchange, on Thursday, October 30, 2003.
The earnings news release will be available on the Company's website,
www.herc.com, shortly after its release.

Also, the Company will convene a teleconference for shareholders and analysts on
October 30th, at 9 AM EST. To participate in the conference call, dial
973-582-2749, 10 to 15 minutes prior to the call time.
