According to the China Internet Network Information Center, China has the world's biggest population of internet users with more than 400 million. A recent study from the consultancy, McKinsey & Co. estimated that 6 million people go online for the first time in the country every month, and predicted the Chinese internet population will grow to 750 million in 2015.

This week, China's fourth most visited site, Sohu.com, posted first-quarter earnings that were 41 percent higher than a year earlier. The company reported net income of $39.3 million, or $1.01 per share, on $174.4 million in revenue for the three months ended March 31. A year earlier, it saw net income of $27.9 million, or 73 cents per share, on $129.5 million in revenue. Sohu forecasts second-quarter revenue between $188 million and $193 million.
