DENVER, June 24 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Long recognized as the premier Rocky
Mountain event that showcases natural gas issues, the 2004 Rocky Mountain
Natural Gas Strategy Conference & Investment Forum, hosted by the Colorado Oil
& Gas Association (COGA), focuses on the future of energy, the importance of
natural gas, and the role of the Rocky Mountain supply region. High-profile
speakers will address the ideas and issues surrounding these concepts. The
discussion encompasses the relationship of natural gas to renewables and
efficiency in building an energy bridge to the future. Strategy Conference and
Investment Forum sessions complement each other and are included in a single
registration.
The Investment Forum
Senior executives from leading public companies will discuss the potential
rewards and significant issues facing the industry in the Rockies. The special
executive panel format creates a unique opportunity for investors to gain
insights into the corporate strategies that are shaping the nation's gas supply
growth region. Thirty-minute scheduled breakout sessions highlighting company
activities will be included and are available to registrants. "Companies to
Watch," both private and public, will be featured at a special Wednesday
morning breakfast.
Two Great Meetings, One Great Event
This year's COGA event is held jointly with the Rocky Mountain Section AAPG
Meeting (RMS-AAPG), hosted by the Rocky Mountain Association of Geologists.
Together, the COGA conference/forum and the RMS-AAPG meeting is expected to
attract 2,000 industry participants. Two Great Meetings, One Great Event
provides a unique combination of sound science and smart business strategies to
create a true Rockies' energy summit of key players and critical ideas. The

TUESDAY, AUGUST 10, 2004
8:30 a.m. (see session times, below) MEGA-SESSION
Welcoming attendees from both the COGA Conference/Forum and the
RMS-AAPG Meeting.
Designed to appeal to both the business and science perspectives, the
two plenary sessions and the keynote luncheon address the place of
natural gas in the future of world energy, the overall importance of
gas to the nation, and the role of the Rockies in providing much of
that supply.
8:30 -- 10:00 a.m. Plenary Session One: THE ROLE OF NATURAL GAS IN
THE FUTURE OF WORLD ENERGY.
Wood, coal, oil, gas & hydrogen. Within the natural hierarchy of
hydrocarbon fuels, there is an ongoing progression toward
de-carbonization and the ascendancy of the hydrogen component. In
that progression, natural gas is expected to grow twice as fast as
oil. Just as decades ago oil redefined energy, so natural gas is
redefining energy now. In the process, it is improving efficiency and
benefiting the environment throughout North America and an emerging
worldwide market place.
Scott D. Urban, Group Vice President-Upstream, BP PLC
Michael Zenker, Senior Director, North American Natural Gas, Cambridge
Energy Research Associates
Professor William L. Fisher, Director of the Jackson School of
Geosciences & the Geology Foundation, The University of Texas at
Austin
Scott Sheffield, Chairman, President & CEO, Pioneer Natural Resources.
10:15 -- 11:45 a.m. Plenary Session Two: THE ROLE OF THE ROCKIES IN
THE FUTURE OF NORTH AMERICAN NATURAL GAS.
Seven of the top ten U.S. natural gas fields are located in the
Rockies, as are four more of the top 20. Many of these have been
"discovered" in the last ten years and are far from reaching their
full potential. Other recently recognized giant Rockies' fields are
pushing their way through development into the top 20. The Rockies
world class resource base, through increased understanding of its
geology and reservoirs, application of major technology advances, and
improvement of the transportation infrastructure, is finally being
recognized as a leading North American energy player. Roger Biemans,
President, EnCana Oil & Gas (USA) Inc.
Michael Farina, Associate Director, Cambridge Energy Research
Associates
Jim Lightner, former President, Chairman & CEO, Tom Brown, Inc.
Fred Meissner, President, Fred F. Meissner & Associates.
12:00 -- 1:15 p.m. Keynote Luncheon
The Honorable John W. Hickenlooper, Mayor of Denver
Bobby S. Shackouls, Chairman, President & CEO, Burlington Resources,
speaking on "The Importance of the Rockies -- Insights from the 2003
NPC Study on Natural Gas."
1:30 -- 3:00 p.m. - CONFERENCE SESSION: Smart Development
The challenge of bringing on line the newly discovered giant fields in
the Rockies demands new approaches by the companies developing the
resources: increasing technological prowess, heightened environmental
standards, attention to community concerns, rigorous efficiency, and
demanding production goals to meet consumer needs. How are they doing
it, and how are their efforts being received?
Patricia Nelson Limerick, Board Chair & Faculty Director, Center of
the American West, University of Colorado
Joseph N. Jaggers, Vice President E&P Denver Region, Williams
Reeves Brown, Executive Director, Club 20

speaking on "Natural Gas Supply: Limited by Politics, Not Geology"
9:25 -- 10:40 a.m. CONFERENCE SESSION: Looking for Moby Dick (The Next
Jonah)
Most of the frontier exploration in the U.S. is taking place in the
Rocky Mountain region. What is the state of that exploration, and who
is looking for the next giant field in the Rockies? A great deal of
the work is carried out by relatively small, often relatively
anonymous, high-risk wildcatters, some of whom discovered the big
fields that are now being produced. We'll take a closer look to see
how close they are to landing the next big one.
