Intermec Technologies Corp. today announced plans to incorporate Windows Mobile 5.0 software for Pocket PC into its CN30 and CK60 rugged mobile computers. This latest version of Windows Mobile, announced today at the Microsoft Mobile and Embedded DevCon 2005 in Las Vegas, makes it possible to develop new innovative devices that include a powerful variety of productivity enhancements. The CK60, Intermec's most rugged mobile computer, is designed specifically for the physically demanding requirements of the direct store delivery (DSD) market. Its onboard, non-volatile Persistent Storage memory preserves applications and databases even if the battery becomes depleted, and an SDIO card slot enables use of removable storage cards, providing more memory for large databases. Windows Mobile 5.0's new support for soft keys allows improved navigation within applications without the use of a stylus. The CN30 is a modular mobile computer that allows users to easily build the device they need, delivering incomparable versatility in a common platform for all retail store management and operations applications. The automated data capture industry's first full-screen, 640 x 480 pixel, high-resolution VGA color display provides easy navigation and optimal visibility for today's most demanding retail application programs, whether traditional text-based emulations or fully-graphic Web pages in the Windows Mobile 5.0 enhanced Internet Explorer. "The advanced networking and communications capabilities of Windows Mobile 5.0 will enable the Intermec CK60 and CN30 devices to dramatically increase data-processing speeds and provide mobile professionals with reliable access to mission-critical information wherever they are," said Kevin Dallas, general manager for the Mobile and Embedded Devices Division at Microsoft Corp. "We're pleased that Intermec plans to build its latest rugged devices on Windows Mobile 5.0." "The features in Windows Mobile 5.0 provide a powerful platform for Intermec to design products that increase the productivity of our customers' mobile workers," said Intermec Vice President Mike Colwell. "No matter what the form factor, Windows Mobile provides a familiar, easy-to-use interface for the end user and a consistent development environment for creating customized applications." The CK60 with Windows Mobile 5.0 will be available for delivery in the third quarter of 2005. The CN30 will be available for order in Q2, with delivery in Q3.
