According to research figures to be released in Venture
Development Corp.'s 2005 Enterprise Mobility Research Service,
Intermec Technologies Corp. is the worldwide market share leader for
rugged PDAs. VDC, an independent technology market research and
consulting firm, is the leading source of information for this sector.
VDC is scheduled to release its report in mid-August.
The rugged PDA category covers PDAs and mobile computers with pen
input capabilities, limited keyboard sizes and diagonal touch screens
3.5 inches to 4 inches. The category includes Intermec's popular 700
Series and CN Series of mobile computers.
Intermec mobile computers, automatic data collection systems and
RFID (radio frequency identification) technologies are used worldwide
to help companies operate more productively and efficiently. Fueled by
a strong culture of innovation, Intermec has invented many of the
revolutionary technologies that today make it possible for businesses
to track goods and services, including the world's first pen computer,
the world's most widely used bar code symbology and smart battery
management technology used by the world's leading laptop
manufacturers.
"The rugged PDA, a subset of the rugged mobile computing market,
is one of the fastest growing rugged mobile computing product
segments," said David Krebs, director of VDC's Mobile and Wireless
practice. "Intermec's emergence as the leading rugged PDA vendor is a
testament to the success of the 700 Series and its innovative approach
to product design."
The rugged Intermec 700 Color Series of mobile computers, all with
Intel(R) processors and Microsoft(R) Windows Mobile(R) for Pocket PC,
are designed from the ground up for worry-free operation in
challenging, mission-critical environments. Powerful communications
capabilities, which allow operation of up to three radios at a time
(WWAN, WLAN and Bluetooth), and Intermec's broad range of
high-performance scanning technologies allow the 741, 751 and 761 to
handle image and signature capture.
The versatile CN30 establishes a new standard for enterprise
mobile computing that maximizes flexibility and offers the lowest
possible total cost of ownership. Capable of converting between a pen
notepad-style and key-based mobile computer, the modular-based CN30
system is powered by Microsoft Windows Mobile for Pocket PC and Intel
processor, with high-performance imaging, wireless, security and
communications systems.
The Intermec CN2 mobile computer, introduced this year, is small
enough to fit in a shirt pocket, yet provides a rugged and reliable
mobile data collection terminal for tough field computing
applications. With an Intel processor and Microsoft's Windows CE .NET
operating system, the CN2 offers an ideal balance of real-time data
collection performance and full-shift power management functionality.
Its Wi-Fi(R) 802.11b/g-certified, Cisco Certified
Extensions-compatible radio provides the best-available wireless
network throughput and reliability, and its wireless security features
support the highest level of protection. Integration of Intermec's
best-in-class linear imaging technology makes the CN2 the ultimate
low-cost, high-performance mobile data collection terminal.
