Dynacraft BSC Inc. has voluntarily recalled certain motor scooters sold by Wal-Mart Stores Inc. (WMT) and Toys "R" Us Inc. as they might accelerate suddenly while in use, causing the rider to lose control and fall, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission.

About 5,500 electric battery-operated city scooters with purple and black Monster High graphics are being recalled. The scooters were manufactured between Oct. 5 and Nov. 7 and carry the model number "8801-14." They were sold exclusively at Wal-Mart stores nationwide and on Walmart.com from November of last year to January for about $249.

The company is also recalling about 5,200 pink and black city scooters with Hello Kitty graphics. The scooters were manufactured between Sept. 10 and Dec. 3 and carry the model number "8801-03." They were sold exclusively at Toys "R" Us stores nationwide and on Toysrus.com from October of last year to January for about $279.

Dynacraft said it received nine reports of incidents of the scooters accelerating unintentionally, including three with minor injuries that include a bloody nose and bruises.

The scooters were manufactured by Zhejiang Qunying Vehicle Co. in China.

Consumers are advised to stop using the scooters, disconnect the battery, and return them to their respective stores for a full refund or store credit.
